Last week saw the death of Glenn Hughes, the biker from Village People. Glenn (he of the humongous moustache) died at the age of 50 from lung cancer. Village People were a manufacturered group, as were the Monkees, the Spice Girls and pretty much every "boy band" of today. Everyone thought they were all gay but were eventually outed as heterosexuals, with the exception of the Red Indian, who WAS gay. Glenn asked that he be buried in his bikers' leathers.
The death was also reported this week of John Phillips, the tall, thin bearded one from the Mamas and Papas. John had a liver transplant a few years ago, no doubt from years of riotous living and I was surprised to learn he was 65 when he died. To quote the old song, "Funny how time slips away".
Both of these people were members of groups who created something new in their time and I for one, enjoyed their music.
