Now that I believe we have the sideline behind us, I want to say how much I appreciate this forum. I have very little knowledge about your avocation for military timepieces. Only recently have I become entranced with them, and like all precision instruments or machines, they have intrinsic character and artistry. There, you are the keys to me becoming knowledgeable. I will listen and learn but be advised, my humor is not meant to denigrate and I will try and reign it in.
I do have some knowledge of military operations and history, especially aviation and special operations. The Kingbird comes from the HC-130 Lockheed combat rescue aircrat I flew in my first operational squadron. The 87 is from tail number 65-0987 which had my name stenciled on as aircraft commander. There and later I had the opportunity to work with Air Force PJ's, SEALs, Aussie, Kiwi and British SAS, SFOD-D, Task Force 160 and other unnamed special operators. I didn't pay as much attention to the timepieces as the weaponry at the time, but it is fascinating now to see the national psyche that evolves in one's individual equipment. For my two cents, a lot of these watches must have been home in drawers because the Seiko/Citizen contingent was strong. With the advent of inertial navigation and GPS the time hack became a checklist procedure updated through TOD ( time of day) and WOD ( word of day) uplinks through tadil-A data link. The romance is gone in that, but the watches still are a hit at the O' Club.
Our PJ's once upon a time were issued Rolex sub's but went to Seiko quartz because of the expense and numbers of lost watches. We put in a special order through the RN China Fleet Club and I still have one of those. Most of the PJ's were of limited resources and that was a good to go watch.
I will appreciate your knowledge and share my appreciation of things military with you. I would like you to try out a website of special interest. It details the history of USAF Pararescue in Vietnam, and highlights one of the lesser known special operators of the world.

Thanks,
Mitch
