They offer much more power with a wide open throttle.
The real problem is that there is no inexpensive to measure torque at low to medium RPMs with these big engines. I had this problem on a dyno at Oklahoma State back in 1972. My 428 could not be held to less that 3700 RPM with a 4 BBL and a 2 BBL was only 150 RPM less. Dynos are better now but to measure power at low RPMs takes a much more expensive model.
