Can a carpet slow you down in the 1/4?

the answer is YES! I was at Maple Grove today for a test and tune. I really wanted to see how the car ran with my new slicks, 4.11's, the new Mosers, Detroit locker, Ford Racing N case, etc... My only run (I'll get into that in a sec.) started off fine. I left at 3500 and I detected no spin and my buddy acknowledged that. The leave felt good, I then grabbed second and it really hooked then third and all I heard and saw was the tach heading towards 7K (I need a 6AL soon, the 6A won't cut it). Apparently the throttle was stuck so I turned it off and coasted, no harm no foul. I pull over on the return lane to find out what happened, under the hood looked ok. I jumped back in to see the gas pedal burried under the carpet. This past spring I put a new carpet in my Fairlane. Well it appears it was tight right behind the Lokar gas pedal and when I planted it, the pedal tore a slit into the carpet and got stuck behind it. Whodathunk? So it looks like a modification is in store. My first ever run with slicks got me a 1.888 60 ft. I did redlight by .003. On street tires I alway left when I saw the third yellow. I guess the slicks are getting me off the line quicker? Another modification needed? Now the reason for only one run. I was done with tech at 10:45, got in line at 11:05 and did not run until 2:22. Talk about a whole bunch of guys p.o.'d in lane 2. I have no idea why our lane was stuck so long. We saw other lanes have three passes to our none. I got tired of seeing F250 4x4's racing from lane 3. You needed to be in lane by 3:30 for the days last runs as 4:00 was quitting time. I didn't feel like screwing around for another few hours for another run so we packed up and went home. The run, a 19.532 Ack! I told my buddy I'll have to look for one of those 1970's footprint gas pedals. I don't think it will get caught behind the carpet!
