I own a designed in Italy, built in Australia, Mazda driven, sold in America as mercury Capri. When I originally saw these on the lot back in the early 90's I looked at the price sticker and was somewhat shocked at the cost. Built to go heads on with the Miata and Fiero, this was a wierd combination and way overpriced , I thought. A few years ago, I saw one at a freinds shop here in town. Bought it for something to play with. I found to my surprise, that the 1991 XR2 Capri was a blast to drive. Though I've never raced it against anything, I believe it might beat a stock mustang with a 5.0, both at top end and the quarter mile. I have no doubt the Mustang would take it off the line, but when the turbo kicks in it jumps. I've had this car to 130 and it was still climbing although slowly. As to the abomination 63, I don't believe in chevy motors in a Ford. I look at that car and the outside is OK, inside is hideous, the small block is just plain cheap as is the whole car. Cheap build, and someone is fishing. Will be interesting to see what it brings, but that is the only interesting thing about it.
