Flexplate with broken teeth

Friend of a friend is on his 2nd flexplate in a 67 F100 after swapping the 352 with a 390. Starter, flexplate and auto trans were original to the truck and remained when the 390 was transplanted. First flexplate went pretty quickly. Several teeth in a single grouping.
He sent me a video of the engine trying to be started. I hear no grinding of any kind, but it seems to me the timing is grossly advanced. He doesn't have a timing light, but is borrowing one tomorrow...therefore does not know what current timing is on this fresh 390.

So, my question is: have you ever seen a flexplate spit teeth from advanced timing alone?
