Response to All 56 Ford cars were 225 HP with the 313 Y block
All the old stuff I have - sales brochures, early 56 shop manuals, older books, even the 1960 MOTORS, shows only the 292/202 as the top engine for 56 (with the 312 in the bird only).
The newer "Fords of the 50s" by Parris 2000 says the 312/225 was added to the Fords in Nov 1955 so I guess that makes em 1956-1/4 cars. Hard to track all this stuff when they add it after the literature is already out.
Makes a big diff though, here is how they Gonkulate out, 56 Fords
16.62 at 81.7 292/202
16.12 at 84.7 312/225 half a sec quicker
Fordo, but shifted at the best RPM not easy back then
17.04 at 79.6 292/202
16.57 at 81.7 312/225 again half sec quicker
I at least remember driving a bone stock 57 312/245, but no 56 cars. You don't see a 56 312 Ford too often!
