Does anyone know of a paint or technique that gives the correct flat black textured look as was factory on the hood and cowl of the 69 mach 1.

Thanks!

This gives the paint and dimensions. You may have to save it to a JPG and blow it up some. The site is (www.treasure coast mustangs.com/boss302.jpg)

These may be helpful also. http://www.arabcustomsandclassics.com/69bosshood.htm>

flat black

I used PPG Duracryl acrylic laquer # DDL9423, this is non textured for a 69 or if you like texture like the 70 had use DDL 9381. looks factory and is fairly durable just don't get wax on it.

Here is another option, no this is not my car or pictures. Using Mike's method it seems there is much less care required & wax wipes off without leaving a mess.:

It's not a technique to get the textured look, it is a textured paint

This has been addressed numerous time in Mustang Monthly's Resto Roundup column. MCA head judge Bob Perkins answers readers resto-questions and like I said this topic always comes up. The correct PPG paint is no longer available so the number won't be much help. I don't know for sure but Sikkens may offer a textured semi gloss black. Your best bet is to ask around at some shows/swaps or heck maybe give KAR Mustang a call. They always seem pretty helpful.

While not original the coolest Flat Black is the new ones that you can wax over and not

Pat . . its just . .

black paint with an additive added to the paint. The flattener, when added, will leave that sheen you desire. The amount of flattener will determine the final look, so it is best to do some test panels until you find what you are looking for.
