O/T (Sort of) 1968 Torino 428 CJ Production Numbers

I've been trying to research the history of my R code (428 CJ) 1968 Torino GT Fastback....I have the original Build Sheet and Ford has provided build info.
My car was produced July 2, 1968. I know the 428CJ option was started late in the production year (April 1968). A classified ad on a "for Sale" Torino mentioned that only 660 R code Torinos were built in 1968. I cannot locate any documentation to confirm this....Is my car rare or was this person just blowing smoke to sell a car.....From what I have read most 428 CJ's ended up in Mustangs.....but only 660 R code 1968 Torinos sounds too small of a number. Any information on 428 CJ production appreciated

You need to contact Kevin Marti to get that verified info. Someone in the Torino/Cyclone forum may also have those numbers.

The number sounds good

Released in April of 68 I believe and sales were probably hampered by lack of a 4 sp I'm thinking.

If you specifically mean Torino..

I suspect the numbers are that low. I bet more of them were Fairlanes. As suggested, a Marti report will reveal all.

Low numbers of Fairlanes

Most 68s Ive seen were Torinos. The Fairlane name plate was dropping fast in 68. I would think that 68 Fairlane CJ #s were very low. I did see one CJ Fairlane but Im unsure if it was 68 or 69.

Yeah, my info states NO 4 SP 428 Torinos were produced...all C6 autos

'68 428 CJ Torino production

December 7 2008, 7:07 PM

I had Kevin Marti research 1968 428 CJ production in all car lines several years ago. The statistic provided by Marti Auto Works was that 840 428 CJ Fairlane / Torinos were produced in 1968. I did not request a breakdown of 4 speed vs. Automatic but I believe most, if not all were automatics
