Brake valve line routing help!

I've been reading some articles and posts on front disc brake conversions. I done my mustang years ago and don't remember if I used the granada proportioning valve or not. My proportioning valve looks to be mounted in the stock location so I think I just left the drum brake valve in place. I've never had any braking problems but the other day I decided to change my master cyl cause the lines on the one I'm using (aluminum bendix type out of a Lincoln Versailes, I think) come out at the engine side and the front line was rubbing on my valve cover. I noticed that the line for the front brakes was routed different than the articles I've read. I have the front brake line coming out of the rear bowl (big one) and going to the top front part of the prop valve. The line at the bottom front going to the right front brake and the line out of the front going to the left front brake. All the diagrams I've seen show the line from the master cyl going in at the front and the lines at the top and bottom front going to the brakes. Do I have it routed wrong or is that how it was routed for the drum brakes? I replaced all the lines so it's possible that I have it wrong. Can anyone with a stock 67 mustang brake prop valve look at theirs and let me know how the lines are routed? BTW, what year Ranger MC will fit my mustang? Thanks, George

I've seen the diagram of the disc brake prop valve and it shows the inlet on the front and the outlets on the top and bottom.

But on my original disc brake car (1969), the inlet is actually on the top and the outlet to the driver side brake is the front one and the passenger side brake is the bottom one. Actually if you think about it, it probably doesn't make any difference as they all open into the same chamber in the prop valve.

I think your setup is fine.

having any braking issues and I thought that all the ports were connected so it really didn't matter but I needed to be sure. I just wanted re-assurance that I hadn't screwed up when I did this years ago and might not be getting full braking. I know it's recommended to use the disc/drum prop valve but the drum/drum valve has been working fine even under hard braking so I just never changed it. As far as the master cyl, would it be best to install the 68-70 power disc without the chamber or the 86-90 Ranger 15/16 disc/drum unit? I beleive the Ranger unit has metric fittings and would require adapter fittings while the Ford unit should be a bolt on job which steers me in that direction. I'm trying to get this done so that I can take the car out for it's next test session by the middle of the month. Thanks for the info, George

I know people use the Ranger MC but never heard that they need metric adapters.

I use the mid 70's Maverick manual drum MC on several cars. The Ranger one is prettier though. happy.gif

The regular disc brake MC for the sixties Mustangs is for use with the power booster so it doesn't have the groove in the unit to hold the clip for the pushrod and the pushrod won't stay in place.

that about the power brake MC. I wonder if the Ranger MC has the groove? The rod has a spring type clip at the end that goes at the back of the MC. It compresses when you push the rod in. I guess it catches on the groove. The Bendix type MC that I was using seemed to hold the rod from falling out cause it never did and it took a little effort to pull the rod out. Well, at least you told me about the maverick MC. Maybe that's the one I need to use unless someone else that has used the Ranger MC can give me some more info or someone that has used the power brake MC without the booster can verify the problem with the rod. Thanks again.

Stock class Mustang with '74 Maverick MC. Using Wilwood front discs:

Another 69 with the Mav MC using stock disc brakes:

Using the same MC also on a Fairlane with Wilwood discs and on a Torino with Ford front discs.
