he did what it took to go racing. Whether or not the engine was not an FE is besides the fact he participated. I never started with an FE, just happened to be impressed with them. Lets see, first memory was, (not including normal cars) a ride around town in a brand new 59 283 FI Vette that my sisters boyfriend just bought. From there it was a string of cars that is too long to list here. Point is, we like FE's and maybe Roger does too. A Rat motor is no slouch, I built enough of them to know, just happens he had one available. We are too good a bunch here to get THAT upset. I'm gonna help race a Chevy next year in vintage races because its a rare historical car that deserves it. Does that make me a traitor?, no, not one iota. My vintage Ford stock cars are on hold due to other reasons, (death of a close friend). Roger, if you ever come to Streator, look me up, be happy to show you some neat stuff. By the way, looking at your log in do you own a Superbird or Firebird? Kevin Powers
"Give us your tired, your poor, your hungry, we'll piss on em"
I've been to streator many times. You may know the car.Chris and Eric from next generation did the rollcage for me back in 1997.It's the purple firebird.
So this guy walks into a Ford bar with a Chevvy...

Barry said it best: if you going to walk into a Red Sox bar with a Yankees jacket on, then you better be ready to take some heat.
On the whole, you got the props that you deserve for bringing a fast car on a long journey and nearly winning--kudos to you. But you are expecting way too much to think that you will come into a die hard ford space with a mustang powered by a chev and not find some guys that don't like your car on shear principal. The guys here aren't even regular Ford guys.....
ok, I just had to say that with all the bashing lately with "off-topic" posts.
Regardless of that fact, thinking you could come onto a die-hard, dedicated FORD FE FORUM and believing you would get sympathy, praise or whatever with a Chevy big block powered late model Mustang is beyond belief.
I came on here to congradulate jay and found that i also had to defend myself against a few stupid comments. If you can't understand that then i don't know what to tell you.
Number 1: You have no reason to defend anything
Number 2: You have a no-win situation preaching to a dedicated Ford Forum
Number 3: If you would have kept your mouth shut, we would have forgotten about you yesterday.
So, instead of posting a congratulations to Jay for nice week of racing you proceed to call everyone idiots for bashing a Chevy powered Ford.
You did not congratulate Jay. You came here to whine about how nobody liked you because you had a Chevy powered Mustang.
I don't have anything against Chevys, I sold my 396 El camino a few years ago and regret it still. I do have a problem with whiners though.

way too much smack talk. Maybe that's part of the sport? I think the guy did great, Jay also did great. It is small minded to think one does better by putting the others down. It is a fact that both Jay and Roger did better because of the competition. Get rid of the competition and there is no drag week. Perhaps I am the only guy here who appreciates how two totally different approaches can result in such a close competition.
Re: I agree with Kevin. This is getting embarassing.
September 20 2009, 7:21 PM
Now here is someone who gets it.If it wasn't for the mustang do you think jay would have had as much fun?I'm sure he wouldn't and i know for a fact that i wouldn't have.Thank you for being so sensible.
in the thread below. The only one one here without a fat head about the win appears to be Jay. I'm as much against a Chevy motor in anything as the next guy but you arm chair racers are also making this place look like it's full of jerks.
I posted about 14 plus FE's racing at our event last week and barely got a whimper except from a couple locals. Where were all you racing experts then?
Gary (FEforlife) has been posting about his problems and build over the winter and his post of a early shutoff 9.70 hardly get's a comment. Where were all the racing experts then? This is a common theme around here where people who've never raced have too much to say. I never bash anybody who has the balls to go out and try and will admit Drag Week takes a lot bigger set than most have. (including me)
This definately isn't the place for anybody with a Chevy to get any sympathy but some of you guys are showing your total lack of class.
Bottom line is, this is Jay's week and he deserves the acolades but sooner or later someone else may do something worth noting. How about some credit for those who do.

Very amusing! I thought Jay's Trunk Monkey designation was just brilliant! Took the edge off of a very intense week of competitive racing. Keep the pressure on Roger. This is precisly what happened in the early sixties and lead to "match racing" pushed by big time promotors. I would love to see that happen again.
This is great for the sport. Heck, it might even get me back into it.

He comes on and says....
Oh, my car wasn't running what is should...
It's crippled since it's set up for nitrous, but I -almost- beat you anyway...
Next year we're going to be more serious...
BLAH, BLAH, BLAH...
If you were to say ANYTHING, it should be a simple CONGRATULATIONS.
Leave it at that, and see you agian next year.
A pretty good welcome here considering the car he ran. I mean we are a bunch of Ford FE guys here, on our home turf. What did he expect? Even if the Ratstang won the event the Galaxie would have stolen the spotlight, I mean really, just look at it. They would have said heres the winner but check out the 2nd place car IT's AWESOME!!
How these guys are picking on Roger. You try and get these guys to all
give him a congradulations for participating with the chebby mustang and
they insult the Rat (I'm talking about the motor!). I mean just tell him
if, he beat that darn ole Ford of Jay's. Then fur shur heed git a pat on
de bak fur a job well dun!! LOL Are you kidding me???
I'm kinda partial to the Gran Prix did Roger drive that one also?
September 20 2009, 8:56 PM
My first muscle car was a 69 Firebird I really liked that 400 Pontiac.
I never posted anything negative about the BBC in the mustang until Roger showed up to make excuses for losing. Then I only stated it was a unimaginative combo of proven hp with lots of other peoples recipes and a proven drag race platform in a mustang. Had he not come on here to cry about why he lost I would have never said anything negative about him.
So if Roger wants to think I'm a jerk F him. I don't know him I only know he is a good driver and a good crybaby.
BTW Roger is that Mustang your car or not?
1967 GTA Fairlane convertible
1969 GT Torino original 390 4 speed
The Grand Prix had a Pontiac motor and a the fella is a real nice guy too. I think a Chevy engine is an awful thing in a Ford but don't think Roger needs the bashing about it. He and everybody else there seems happy Jay won.
to win at Drag Week since you aren't racing anyone. Maybe good driving involves not crashing between tracks. A good car and consistant driving get's the job done.
If Mega Ford weekend wasn't at the same time every year, I'm sure my buddy would have no problem showing up with his street legal, full interior, 3600 lbs plus, N/A 67 Fairlane and making a few people look bad. It's not a FE but has one of those dinosaur 351 engines.
Ran 9.44 last weekend with street tires and through the mufflers and 9.26 in race trim. Anybody got something for him???
I'll admit, I did enjoy seeing the '59 Impala in the competition...
September 20 2009, 10:06 PM
Both it, the big '59 Impala and the Sport Fury (Mafia Squad car?) were some unique rides. I like big sleeper looking cars - it's not just the Brand - its the concept.
It doesn't have to look like a race car to be a race car.
If not for "smack talk" would there be any auto racing?
Down at the old Mighty Moe (hamburger joint) we knew how to handle whiners. If you persisted the guys would rag on you until you got faster or shut up.
roger, it's time to go. Come back faster next year.
Regards,
Ron.

Like it or not, that mustang put down a faster time than the Gal.At only 509 inch (+less weight im sure ) that stang would have put a serious beating an Jay's 511/na Mach 1,put the 511 in the Gal,now what have you got ? no 9.50's for sure. The SOHC/Gal combo is awesome,a one of a kind car, congrat's Jay.
