As the 79 Ford F250 4x4 did not come with a 390 - based on what I could find. The 76 Ford Truck did. I am looking to put headers on my 390 - I am assuming there would be very few differences betweek the 76 and 79 trucks that would impact headers fitting. Any one out there have info on this? I look to buy headers for a 76 390 F250 4x4 and see if they fit.
They will bolt to the engine and clear the frame but that mated transfer case can be a deal breaker. I put a NP435/NP205 mated case combo in an earlier truck and danged if the headers didn't point right in the way of the front driveshaft. Didn't plan for that one! I am sure some will work as is but I am also sure some won't. Hawkrod
I put a set of FPA headers on my '73 4x4 with a transplanted 428 PI, truck has the divorced transfer case.
Should have bought the extended, or dropped headers that are made to drop lower in order to clear the crossmember that is under the trans/bell area.
I'm in the process of scalloping out the crossmember so I can get pipes to the collector, the collectors basically dump right into the crossmember, not much room for anything.
Not sure how much frame difference there is, but keep this in mind when deciding.
I put a 427 in my '77 F250 4x4, but it was an early '77 that still had the highrider frame and divorced TC, so all I had to do was switch to the FE frame mount pedestals from the 351M pedestals, and the 73-76 headers fit fine. Dunno about the later lowrider setup

I have older Blackjack /Dynomax(?)...on my '79 F150 4x4...

...'79 F150 4x4 428, NP205 & NP435, came as a 300 I6. I used '74-'76 frame brackets for the mounts. They fit in different holes in the frame than the 6 cyl holes. I still use the original 40 amp alternator, and I adapted an earlier style ('66-68?) power steering pump and bracket. Of course, you need a rear sump oil pan. I made "mail-box" slip-on collectors to drop below the crossmember, which is right behind the header outlets. Summit no longer lists the Blackjack headers. I had to reverse some bolts for the dual front shock brackets.
I have a pair of the old blackjack headers if you are interested if you are anywhere near milwaukee. They are in good shape surface rust had very few miles on them. My truck was divorced case but did have a high pinion axle and they were close but did clear by a few inches.
