Little OT: leave it in or take it out opinions

Ok get your minds out of the gutter, lol.I am referring to my roll cage.I still have the sheet metal that was cut out of the floor and trunk to weld it to the frame. It isn't required for no faster than I will go and may make it worth more when I go to sell it again.I know, leave it in and let the buyer make that decision.I just wish I had never put it in.Only done it for my wife's and daughters piece of mind while my old ass is playing. Not a big deal at this time as I still need to get it running again and who knows,I may need it if it runs like it should or like it used to when I had it the first time.

JMHO

I'd leave it in, especially since you have the pieces to put it back- it was meant to be a race car, and you're setting it up pretty close to as raced condition with the right engine parts & such, and it is a real race car with history- the cage is appropriate

If you are planning to run the car and think the it will run 11.50 or less, then yes, leave it in. If you're only going to play a few times and park it OR If you think it won't quite get there, I'd take it out. JMHO but I think potential buyers are NOT going to race it....they want it for it's historical value. The CLOSER to virgin showroom condition, as it was delivered off the transporter, the better.

Bobby, leave it ... IN

Even if you don't run 11:50's or better, if you happen to lose control or a tire lets go etc, I feel that it would be better if we still had you intact rather than the car. Believe me, I LOVE 64's but safety is important also. I don't think the value would be compromised that much.

"Original" vs. racing pedigree

May 26 2012, 1:17 PM

In this case, since the car was intended to be a limited-production race car, and was used for that purpose and has a verifiable history, the cage is totally appropriate. If it had been a garage queen or street car its whole life, then it wouldn't have needed a cage- wear the cage proudly

On another note, and something to think about....
The person that would buy THAT car at the price it is worth, has enough money to have it restored to whatever condition he/she chooses to after buying the car. The fact that you have the original sheetmetal is awesome, and certainly a selling point.

Personally, I can't afford the hubcap off Bobby's car, so I'm done talking about this.

Same dilemna here Bobby, almost. Originally it didn't ....................

.......have a rollbar, 2nd owner installed one because he had a SOHC in it running C/MP. We put a 6-pt in mine thinking we'd need it at some point (only welded the loop, legs were bolted, shhhh, like unibodies would do). Will probably put it back (the 6-pt), correctly, I don't think it would devalue either of the LWGs, Rod.

Yeah I know and am not removing it until it is sold and then as far as I am concerned, the buyer can if he wants. Thanks guys for the opinions, kind of what I was thinking anyway. Was a fun discussion. All we need back then was a helmet and lap belts. How times have changed.
