I have a suspicion that I committed the rookie mistake of installing the pressure relief valve in my 427 centre oiler incorrectly. I've done about a thousand miles since the rebuild but the hot oil pressure's always been lower than I was expecting (cold is always OK). Before the rebuild it was about 19 psi hot idling, now it goes down to about 11 psi hot idle (1000 rpm). I know that's within spec but all the clearances are similar to what they used to be, same oil pump (it checked out fine) same oil brand/weight, same gauge. I'm also using 270 deg groove mains now too. Highway driving oil pressure is also lower than before. Another strange thing which may or may not be relevant is that when I crank the engine to check the valve lash say, when the cranking stops you can hear oil squeezing out somewhere towards the back of the engine. Are the low oil pressure and squeezing oil sound symptoms of incorrect relief valve installation? What damage might I have done if it's wrong? I drew a diagram when I took it apart, but that's long gone now and I can't remember what I did. I have an awful suspicion I put the spring in last, but I could be wrong! Thanks
