Hipo KH Wheels

December 3 2017, 5:59 PM

They will have KH stamped on the raised area between 2 lugs, and then a FoMoCo stamp between another. Also make sure you get the 15x5.5” wheels, not the 15x5” used in 1960.

As for price, I’ve seen them sell for $600+ for singles on eBay, but know of them selling for less in private. In any case, they are pretty hard to find these days so be prepaired to pay.

There are always the repop wheels too, they aren’t cheap either.

Re: Hipo KH Wheels

Someone got a killer deal on the ones off my wagon, 4 of the 5 1/2" ones and one 5", all were original to my 61 Meteor wagon. Not just HiPo cars had them, the wagon sure isn't a HiPo.
The small rounded holes are the giveaway to spot them, normal wheels have a more squared off opening where the metal is folded over to make a flange. The HiPo wheels are just a cut opening, easy to spot when on the car.
The center hole is about 2 1/2", it doesn't fit snug to the hub like normal Ford wheels.

Winning bid $5655 I assume that includes the car???

December 3 2017, 6:59 PM

I think that is more than we've ever given for a CAR. A set of steel wheels? Who ever won that bid better not tell their wife!
The pics are gone -
I have an old 15x5.5 rim, not sure what it is, maybe its $1000. LOL.

Not too crazy imho

December 4 2017, 10:45 AM

The 4 NOS Hurst wheels with aluminum beauty rings I had immediately sold for $2500 30 yrs ago after I naively sold them for $1250.00 & thought I had done well. Expensive lesson in pricing & research. Seemed crazy, but soon afterwards used ones I had were selling fast at $800 a set even without beauty rings or in different . Reproduction ones impacted prices.

This NOS set just bid to over $4k with the more common chromed beauty rings -https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Hurst-Wheel-Lot-NOS-Dazzler-Rare-/202126219559?hash=item2f0fa95927%3Ag%3A-skAAOSwiYlaG0Az&vxp=mtr&nma=true&si=ZkTtqGxo7AZu63N2ReWMqxUhv2E%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557.

Not surprised to see other special real wheels in the $1k-$1250/each range 30 years later.

Hipo wheels

I believe I have about 20 of them that I was keeping for my own cars but maybe I should sell a set or two. I have both widths.

Jack was smart enough to start rat holing these wheels years ago. However, I've never seen him sell anything?.....might be a different "Jack"?
