I've posted several things in the past about this as well so you may want to go back a few pages as I may have forgotten a few things.
There is only one indian take out place on the island but the local cuisine can get down right spicy - you just have to ask for the spicy stuff.
There are three night clubs, a couple of sports bars, a small casino, lots of bars and resurturants. There is not a pool or gym at the school but there is a gym in town and the ocean is just a stone throw away.
I was told the same thing, that if I wanted to, I could transfer to SABA or Nevis on a space available basis. Once I got here, I wasn't really interested in transfering. I really like the faculty and feel they are almost all well qualified to teach Medical Students; honestly there are a couple that are new and are just getting their feet wet but the administration follows up with them and we're getting what we need for the Boards, we just have to do a bit more on our own.
I really like the island. There are a lot of tourists who come here so there is always something to do or a special 'event' going on. The local people are very friendly and willing to help you out. The food is good, you can eat at the expensive places ($20.00 US/plate) or the cheap places ($2.50 US/plate). There are two larger grocery stores and numerous small grocery stores. Everything, and I do mean Everything, you need is within walking distance, though most of us have bikes that we get around on. Electronics are more expensive and US name brand food is more expensive, so you either go without or choose another brand.
All in all, it has been a very pleasant island experience and a very challenging academic experience. We just finished our first exam week! So we all took a breather before we have to hit it hard again.
See you in January. You'll want to bring a light jacket and some rain gear. I'm told that it'll be a bit cool and even though the rainy season is up, there are still a few rainy days.
Peace.
