Is anyone going for a skate? At least to see what this is about and who is involved?

Would attract more interest if he posted coaches names if there are any.

All coaches in LL are announced. Just announce the OHFC coaches and maybe you will get more players at least for tryouts.

My D said she'd love to go out for a skate, and see what it's all about.

Will wait and see what the tryout dates are though, and what team we should be skating for....

She will be MAA next year. (99)

Since this is likely a "rogue" league if it ever gets off the ground (not sanctioned by HC) do not expect to be able to try it out and return right away. The GMHL players once they play a game in that rogue league are not permitted to return to a HC until the next season.

Tryouts were said to be announced yesterday and starting tomorrow. Still nothing. Was hopeful about this, but the passing of time is eating up credibility. If there's a chance something is not going to happen, don't tell people when to expect it, or at least explain why its not happening.
Tryout need to happen before league tryouts, not about to commit to one team, and then reneg.

Having regional teams is definetly a step in the right direction for the Bantam ge group. However at the Midget level, the PWHL really serves this purpose already ao I don;t see the point of it.

OFHC would serve Midget level better if it restricted to U16 and let PW take the older girls. PW is so watered down now that they are taking 15 yr old girls to fill in the spots. This is not a good development model, for any age group involved.

I have no idea what is true.

Some have said that they intend to try out for this league, and also for their OWHA association, then decide in August which team to play on. Others have said that if I let my daughter on the ice for so much as a tryout, that Hockey Canada will ban her for a year. Others say the ban is for life, but only if she plays a game.

Some have said that the coaching will be fantastic, others that they'll never play a game. I've heard that registration will be half of OWHA, due to corporate sponsorship, while others are saying to be ready to pay double the present rate.

Some have suggested that this will be the best route to the PWHA, while others are saying that the PWHA won't be allowed to look at anyone from this rogue league.

How do I find out the truth - bearing in mind that I don't expect to find it here...

I'm old enough to remember when they said that the WHA was a joke. Same with the AFL. I'm told that everyone had a right good chuckle that the upstarts from the AFL actually thought that they could compete with the NFL in the Superbowl (which they also said was a joke). My grandfather used to talk about how the American Baseball League wasn't expected to survive.

I also remember the USFL and the WNBA. The trick is predicting which upstart leagues will make it, and which ones won't. My guess is, that this will get a foothold in the GTA, like the GTHL or the Provincial Jr A league - and rural Ontario will be left out of it, ultimately sending their best into the GTA.

They have to start sometime . We just might not be the beneficiary of this league. If this goes and they get sanctioned when the first couple of players get a scholarship from here ,this will be the place to play. The OW will end up feeding this league. My D is going into her last season of midget and we will go for a skate and if it works she will do finish there. Something different instead of execs and coaches doing it for themselves.

Wish them luck.

Teams aren't rostered in the OW until August, so everyone is really open until then. OFHC has to answer all the questions before August. If they do, it will be interesting to watch. It comes down to how evenly matched the teams are. Right now, top teams in OW have to go to tournaments to play other top teams because there are only 1 or 2 others in their league play.

Unless you have already committed (even verbally) .

Should the coach that committed to a player continue to hold her spot if they hear she is at the OFHC skate ?

Signings may not be official until August but the April commitments are just that commitments , not honouring these commitments should not be an option for coach or player.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong. I do believe you will be kicked out for a year if you play a actual game in a unsanctioned league. What I see here is a pre skate, so why wouldn't I have my AA daughter go to see what the level of talent is like? Think it will be healthy to go and see what the new league is like. Not on a team until you are signed. There are some good coaches in the OWHA, but also a lot of bs with coaches and managers moving into other cities and taking over not really ever giving a crap about player development. Wonder if this new league can put an end to that???

I agree with the poster who said that the owha could more then likely become a farm team for the ofhc. Not getting in on the ground floor may make it tougher the following year especially if they get a good turn out. Even here now that some CWHL players are getting behind this!

If there is a potential better option out there I am not concerned about a "verbal" commitment with my d. I think that the OWHA has erred in not working with this group. That is the problem with tryouts immediately after provincials, it doesn't allow players to explore opportunities.

As for being banned for a year, that ain't going to happen! Hockey Canada has already been slapped for trying to "ban" a 9 year-old who was a stick boy for a Greater Metro Junior League team in Shelburne. A stick boy, yet, Hockey Canada in their infinite wisdom decided because he was affiliated with this team, that he should be banned. It didn't last long, maybe a week before the press and politicians chewed HC up and spit them out. I would like to see them try and ban a minor. Really shows where HC priorities lie. And USA Hockey has already lost an anti-trust case in the US with the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) regarding anti-competitive practices.

"Last I heard they have a Nigerian Prince takng money for them !" Not sure what that means as we in this province have been sending money to the Laural and Hardy show knowingly for years LOL. I think there is a potential for them to really make a dent in the OWHA's self-proclaimed suit of armour. Good on them.

If we really want change in this province, this may just be the way to go about doing it!

I've long said that the only thing that really matters at Bantam is who the coach is, and what he/she is teaching. Doesn't matter what league, what association, or how many "A's".

Sooooooo, tell me who the coaches are going to be, and you may actually get my daughter to a tryout.

Hockey Canada has no idea what the OW does, and that's nothing. All that counts is $ and numbers. Then the OW doesn't know and doesn't care what the associations do, and that's give coaches and execs power for their own agenda. We need competition to make the OW wake up. If this OHFC works the OW will have to make changes for the betterment of the players. That means real work. But then it will be to late. This new league will be high level only. There Will be no BB or B or A and then sand bagging by coaches. This will take only the best players available. And this will attract scouts. Good by OW.

And let's say that my daughter got blackballed by the OWHA. What exactly would she be giving up? A chance to PAY to try out for the Ontario Winter Games, where ONE evaluator yawned through 3 of her games, and left before her 4th? A chance to never play for team Ontario unless I play stupid political games, regardless of skill level? The chance to play in a farce of a Provincial Tournament with 24 teams in it - clearly designed to make money, as opposed to finding the best team?

Not sure what she'd be missing. And if the OFHC goes south, and they won't let her back into the OWHA - I'll see them in court while she plays in the OMHA.

Sorry, I've lost track, what's the down side again?

OFHC would do even better if they ran 2 levels at Bantam and Midget. Set up a farm system. Only hole in their plan is lack of call ups and no Development. Run separate Minor and Major systems. That would be truly Elite.

My D loves the game. Where she plays is irrelevant. However I am very nervous about her being banned. Nothing is transparent. Everything sent to my family has been a lot of words. Answers are open-ended an non-commital. I have not ever had the need to contact the owha but you would think a new rogue league would want to have hockey Canada backing. I certainly don't want my D banned for a year. From reading this and listening to others who are just as confused, I'm thinking we will stay with what we know. I work hard to pay for her hockey I'm not interested in losing it

One of the biggest compalints about the OWHA is lack of transparency. Members do not feel informed of ogoing decisions (there is no structure inthe OWHA to support that kind of information flow, there is no two-way infomration portal, there is never a request for input, etc. etc.)

However, the new "league" is giving only a basic website with no information about: fees, arenas, tryout dates, coaches names, insurance information, Q&A's that could alleviate concerns about HC non-involvement, repercussions from OWHA and HC re: transfers, etc. Let's face it, if they've had discussions with HC and OW, then be upfront about the risks to the players. Don't hide them. Let us know what the risks might be and let us make informed decisions.

If the new league is supposed to be better than the old league, then the new league needs to pony up and start communicating.
Otherwise, why would people jump?

^12:59 The biggest complaint with OW isn't transparency. When you look through any empty bottle there is complete transparency..there's just nothing there. In the OW's case, there just isn't anything there. No vision, no leadership, no strategy to deal with the issues. They are completely transparent, there just isn't anything there. OFHC scares them, because there just might be something there..Of course we don't know that yet.

I'm pretty sure I've figured out who is behind this league. Nothing sinister in wanting to give it a try so I am not trying to say it's wrong or right. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out, just a bit of logical deduction. Think about it. Who is connected enough, with enough dough earned through hockey and affiliations with enough club teams? Who are the candidates? Not too many. By not naming the executives, somebody has something to lose. Hmmmmm. Who could that be?

From the OWHA:
It has come to our attention that a group calling itself the OFHC (Ontario Female Hockey Conference) has been contacting various individuals and may be offering tryouts for female hockey players. Please be advised that the OFHC is not affiliated with, nor sanctioned by the OWHA (Ontario Women’s Hockey Association), the OHF (Ontario Hockey Federation) or Hockey Canada. As such, the OFHC has no benefits of membership which includes but is not limited to OWHA/Hockey Canada insurance, participation in its programs and approval to play other OWHA, Hockey Canada, USA Hockey or IIHF teams.

OWHA always brings up the insurance angle. Really, who has ever received any insurance money after years and years of paying into that slush fund? My hockey-injured daughters had to use my private healthcare insurance, nothing received from OWHA for rehab.

Why would anyone be interested in this league? Everyone needs to commit to an OWHA team this April or you could be team-less come later if this new league does not get off the ground.

It would not be right for players to commit to an OWHA team this April and then ditch the OWHA team in August if they made a team from this new league. You could be blackballed from OWHA teams after that.

I just don't get it. Why would tryouts be in August?

I've been driving rink to rink for the past week, 24 hours a day. Still can't find the tryouts.

Why wouldn't it be right to ditch your OW team. Would be a great message to the OW if they did ditch the teams.

I think most parents want to instill integrity in their kids, in that once you make a commitment you stick to it. For that reason alone this league is dead in the water next season without tryouts happening right now.

Actually it is nothing like moving from association to association , as long as you are going to the association you committed to you are not dishonoring yourself .

That's self centered thinking. I guess tryouts shouldn't exist. Tampering only.

Come on folks! if you are not in the PWHL talks, your not good enough. Don't change a ranking to make them feel good. PWHL is the best womens hockey in Canada.

It's to bad this will not work. Great idea. Problem is T.C. Promises pre tryouts for the last month and emailing people with what their going to do and no results. Maybe they need someone else to do this. It can't be TBA, he's to busy coaching all the teams.
