Day 1

"And they're off at Saratoga " and what a cracking start to the contest on a picture perfect day at the Spa with both your contest host and intrepid reporter in attendance.

Indypacer set the scene in the opening race when the aptly named Indycott ($4.90) got the dubbya. Tims70AR was also in the cash early after Beaux Arts ($7.10) drew clear in the second. Elk kept the streak alive when Planet Trailblazer ($6.10) blazed the trail in the third. BPiets and Sammy the Sage also took their fill when Takaful ($8.60) impressed in the fourth. However it was Cruzan who is your day one leader after starting on the Southampton Way ($20.80) in the 5th. And Ten Furlongs got off the mark when Buffalo Miss ($12.20) proved to be a hit in the sixth.

Cindy Lou Jazz got her computer working in time for Muqtaser ($17.40) who was a popular choice with Elk also landing on him. Proctor's Ledge ($14.20) proved to be another sage investment for Sammy and SB West moved north with this selection also. The last race of the day has been historically a great opportunity for long shots and it certainly was a Joyful Joyful ($39.20) finale for Madame Blum and the aforementioned Cruzan who has set a fast pace for the rest of us.

CherokeeScot is unable to post the Daily Recap for Saturday/Sunday, due to internet connectivity issues at Hot Scot North. He has asked me to fill in for the short term. In the mean time, he is happy to report that the concert was a blast, and his duet came off without a hitch.

Day 2 Recap

It's pouring rain on a Monday morning in Saratoga so a perfect opportunity for me to catch up on the daily recap. After a frantic Friday to start the competition we had a much more sedate Saturday. De Niro who is one of our resident thespians (not that there's anything wrong with that ) conjured up some magic to get his name on the cast list with Voodoo Song ($7.80) in the second. Alex the Terror ($9.10) got Damascus on the right road after a scary win in the fourth. Partly Mocha ($9.10) came with a latte run to put Spiderjohn on the board in the seventh while Glorious Empire ($20.00) made it a glorious finale for NDSC32 who must have been relieved to get his picks in on time after his opening day faux pas.

Day 3 Recap
And we have a new leader in DBLAKERS as one of the Brown twins (I'm not sure which one) cruises into the lead afterTainted Angel ($13.70) and Somerset Sandy ($43.80) went back to back under music making Santana. Doc Spa had got the day rolling afterOrbolution ($9.30) in the opener and TimS70 got his Uncle Mojo ($7.20) going in the third. Jackk8 and Ten Furlongs got on the Phi Beta Express ($8.70) while Linda 🍚 was bowled over when winning the last to show she can be a Major Force ($13.60) much to the delight of Ozzy, De Niro and Pedalcar

Day 4 Recap

On a miserable Monday Perplexed ($232.50) not only lit up the tote board but totally blew it away in the opener for "Dirty Shoes" Lukas at a sloppy Saratoga. Unfortunately none of us heard the morning buzz or were fuhriously kissed enough by Lady Luck to select the greatest long shot of D Wayne's illustrious career. Indeed until the last race only Oriole Boy and Paris Bob had made a forward motion after Miss Ella was caressed to victory in the feature. The Bob Tail however ended up on the right nag in the finale as Alien Invasion ($24.60) relished the lack of atmosphere at a deserted Spa to land the closer.

Day 5 Recap

Perennial buzzer beater DBLAKERS missed all his shots on Wednesday but still leads the contest handily although he has now used up half his bullets. Meanwhile Cindy Lou Jazz struck the right note again when Combat Controller ($5.50) came out on top in the third at a surprisingly short price. Treatherlikestar ($17.60) was the longest priced winner on a very chalky day and helped Indypacer and SBWest move up the leaderboard. Sadly none of our resident meth heads selected Trouble for Skylar ($3.90) who despite breaking bad from the gate comfortably won the sixth. The always colorful BertConvy ended the day with a resounding donk when Missy's Storm ($13.00) thundered home in the finale.

Day 6

Our resident jumps expert Propro was correct on two counts in the opener today. Firstly that this was one of the weakest fields ever for the Smithwick and secondly that one of three long shots would win. Unfortunately he missed picking the winner by a Swansea Mile ($59.00). On a very quiet day for our group the highlight was that Mikey the Horse got off his duck thanks to Rprettyboyfloyd ($9.60) in the sixth while SBWest created some Celtic Chaos ($13.40) in the feature.

Day 7

"Flattery will get you nowhere" as Miss Moneypenny once said to 007 but don't tell that to Goldandmyrrh who doubled up Friday with Noneedtoflatterme ($5.40) and Flattermefabulous ($7.90) to open his account in the contest. Johhny B has been Driving Me Crazy ($12.60) with his great Tampa picks and came up with a winner at the Spa to show he's not a one trick pony. Former champ JMan showed that he's back in the running with the oddly sounding Aveenu Malcainu ($10.20) . Badactor''s loyalty to former classic contender Tale of S'avall($21.40) was finally rewarded which also cheered up our modestly named competitor , Italian Stallion.

A day that will go down in infamy.

July 29 2017, 7:35 PM

Day 8

Bill Mott may have had a Jim Dandy of a birthday but as far as I can tell July 29th will go down as the day that UIC went ofer 93 . Indeed it would have been 0 for 95 had someone not been operating on New Orleans time. I don't know what El Deal was today but I would have thought that a Good Samaritan might have come to our rescue but in a surprise twist every single winner managed to elude us. I am sure that we were all Revved Up for today's action but we certainly seemed to lack the Mojovation to win even a Kirby's Penny . Hopefully now the Coal Front has passed and normal service will be resumed Sunday. On the positive side at least Tom Williams will have a less hectic Saturday night than usual !

Day 9

After yesterday's total blank all the Paid Up Subscribers ($3.80) of our illustrious Focus Group ($6.90) including some of New York's Finest ($13.60) were determined to Rectify ($14.20) the situation on Sunday. However never has the Seperation of Powers ($3.80) been more evident as defending champion Ziggy showed us how to create his own legacy with the selection of Doc's Legacy ($64.00) in the lucky seventh. On another frustrating day for most of our group only Cruzan was able to stem the Black Tide ($18.00) of losses with the winner of the ninth.

Day 10

Good evening from Brazil where I'm looking for the next Einstein. Meanwhile we are already one quarter through the contest and former champ The Bobtailnag is still working like a True Charm ($9.00) . It was a manic Monday for Spanky as he went deep but only had a Frosty Lady ($5.30) to show for it at the end of the day which was sweet music for Thundergulch. On a less than funtastic day these were the only scores for our group with no one having any cause to smile big.

Day 11

Good evening from Argentina where I'm looking for the next Candy Ride. Meanwhile back in the crazy USA folks are still posting picks after the 12 noon deadline but since we have only been running this contest for 11 years that's perfectly understandable. Our group were out in force after the dark day and Turffan was the first to Sound The Horns ($13.00) in the second race. BPiets and Pedalcar combined to get Harkness ($14.80) home in the third while Madame Blum and the Italian Stallion duetted with a New York Song ($22.00) in the seventh. Oriole Boy stopped bitching about the current three year old crop just long enough to land La Manta Gris ($24.00) in the eighth. Finally Turffan chalked up (literally) another win in the ninth with Carina Mia ($3.00)

Buenos Noches !

Day 12

Good morning from JFK airport where Cherokee Scot was faster out of the gate than Bonnie Scot was yesterday. Very little action Thursday although the Brown twins did get their picks in just under the wire again but unfortunately to avail. There were some decent price winners to be had and Oriole Boy swooped to get First Appeal ($10.20) home in the sixth. Danceland ($14.00) put Mikey the Horse in dreamland in the seventh and helped Oriole Boy land a nice double on the day. That was the last of the action for our group with no dream movers on the day as we all look forward to an exciting weekend at the track.

Day 13 Hall of Fame Day

A warm welcome to the latest inductee to the Hall of Shame as Spanky who was certainly not Quick on the Draw on Friday posting his selection hours after the race was run and he still couldn't get the winner ! Many of us arrive in Saratoga with a Barrel of Dreams but by the end of the meet are left bitter and Hardened . Some times you just have to Pause for the Cause and be a Calculated Risker here if you want to Catapult yourself up the racing hierarchy and leave with more than just Bricks and Mortar. Meanwhile Hezethebest justified his billing when his highly touted Conquest Sure Shot ($12.00) proved to be that and more much to the delight of Larry's enTOURage which on this occasion included Joly B and DLA 38. Finally the only other winner of the day was Petrov ($7.60) who scored to bring much elation in the villa owned by Tims70 in Arkansas.

Day 14 Whitney Day

Congratulations to Spanky who just one day after being inducted to the Hall of Shame beat his previous record by posting his picks a mere three hours after the deadline but don't stress Spanky , I will always love you , even though you thought today's card was dedicated to Whitney Houston ! As we have seen in this contest there has definitely been a Behavioral Bias ($15.60) to long shots and Paseana and 5Wide picked up on that factor in the second race. Unbelievably Spiderjohn and Timmye missed out on Trumpi ($47.40) in the fourth much to the disappointment of the Mott the Hoople crowd. Ten Furlongs used his on track inside knowledge to move into contention by hitting the bomber of the day Zennor ($30.60) in the 7th and we closed this summer's day in fine style with Badactor and Timmye cashing in under a Thundering Sky ($28.60)
