I've been cleaning out my room since I got back from California. I just cleared out a space for my computer so I haven't hooked it up until recently. Grrr...I hate room cleaning. How did I end up with sooo much crap?
Anyway... I've been waiting to tell you guys that I finally got to go to Pixar! That place has to be just about the most awesome place in the world! It was even better than I imagined.
You know all that stuff they show on the DVD features and you're like "yeah, right, like they really do that kind of stuff at their office" but it's actually true. In the animation area they have their own little stage and their own bar and they have music performances on Friday nights. Everything is decorated all crazy and it really is kinda like a shantytown with all kinds of stuff thrown in there. It's not anything like the places I visited on the CSSSA "animation studio" field-trips with the tiny identical cubicles for each person. It's not like an office building at all. It's like nothing I've ever seen before.
Alan was so nice to take me through and show me all the stuff like the big screening room, and the small screening room where they do dailies, and all the art gallery sort of stuff upstairs. He also showed me all the stages of one of the shots that they go through when they animate it (like layout and blocking and animation and then the final shot). That was really cool. I got to eat lunch at the cafeteria there, and we sat at the table next to Andrew Stanton and Lee Unkrich and Bob Peterson. That was so awesome. It's funny that I see so many famous people in Nashville and I totally don't care, and then I see famous people at Pixar and I totally flip out.
I know that some of the people on this board have been to Pixar, but I thought I should share my experience, especially for those who haven't been. If you've never been to Pixar, you should definately try to get in somehow. It's so worth it. I'll probably never get to go back there again...*sigh*...I guess I better get back to work so I can perhaps be ready to apply for their internship at some point.
Hope everyone's having a nice summer!
Bevin
