At the moment I am doing a Home Study Course in Equine Care and Management. It is a Lingfield Correspondence course.
The course material for the Correspondence Certificates is more comprehensive than given in the BHS syllabi for the Horse Owner's Certificates. So at the end of Level 1, I can choose to do the exam if I wish or whether to gain the Lingfield Correspondence Certificates. I dont HAVE to sit the exams.
I really would like to gain the HOC's but my problem is that I panic and get myself into a state where exams or tests are involved. I can sit the exam at my own home though so I guess that would help. If the course material is more comprehensive than the BHS syllabi is there really any need for me to sit the HOCs exams?
Do many of you have the HOC's or Stage certificates?

So far I've managed to pass stages 1-3 and PTT though. To start off with I was so nervous I made a complete mess, so I told myself that it really didn't matter what the end result was if I tried my very best. I took each exam as a day to make some new friends and as an assesment day to find out just what had sunk into my brain!
The examiners are nervous too, and so are the other candidates, though some are better at covering their feelings than others.
Good luck.
