Having passed my Stage 1, I'm now about to start a course for my Stage 2, has anyone got any useful advice about this exam, as there don't seem to have been many previous postings about it?
Any help appreciated.

Stage 2 Care
- the main advise I can give you is to be as PRACTICAL, SAFE AND QUICK as you possible can in all aspects. Get familiar with getting a horse ready for lunging in as many different types of tack as you can.
- in the lunging be safe, logical and get the thing going! Really get up after the horse if they are lazy and get ready to talk to the examiner about it.
- speak from your own experience as much as possible.
Stage 2 Riding
- As usual ride as many different types as you can.
- Practice jumping small course up to 2ft6 on as many strange horses (as long as they are not psychos) as you can
- remember after 1st Jan 2004 there is a small grid included
- Be as neat as you can but also as EFFECTIVE!
My last bit of advice is get as far as you can to St3 standard in the riding before you take the exam. I waited till I was riding at Stage3 level before i took mine and it helps because on the day - NERVES ARE THE KILLER! So if you are above the level then you will def pass 1st time.
It is also a good idea to be trained by a listed BHS Examiner. Or to at least be assessed by one a couple of times before you take your exam
Good luck and let us know how you get on!!!
