I have been thinking about doing the home study option with Equi-study to get through my stage III and PTT, has anyone had any experience of this or similar types of correspondence courses?
Many thanks, Jo

They only provide the theory content. You still have to actually sit the exam and the majority of it is very practical, hands-on stuff. You might think of going to a good BHS training centre for an assessment and then discuss how long it is going to take to get you to the standard.
Just a thought.

I currently have a horse on loan and teach weekends at a local yard where I have been for 2 years now (did my stage I some years ago now.) I also work a regular '9-5' so I really wanted to know if the theory in the texts are any better than looking through books yourself and if they are well structured and provide additional things such as learning tequniques, revision tips, quick rules and notes on subjects. If I'm going to pay several hundred pounds for text that I could get from a regular text book, I really don't think it's worth it!
Any opposing views???
I agree that the practical work plays a huge part in the stage II but it's not that that I'm worried about -this time round!

I have the Equi study manuals i II III the then PTT I have found them invaluable. They are good but I would use them inconjunture with practicule stable mangement. By that I mean apply to every day experiance and practice all the every day things you may get on a yard. Example putting on a bandage on a horse in a stable. I would frist remove all the bedding arond the the leg so I don't get it mixed up in the bandage. I would also explain why I am doing this and the reasons for my actions. The result on my exam was that I didn't have to complete the proceedure as I knew what I was doing.
