I have been considering sitting the BHS Stage 1 Exam and have been reading through the syllabus on the BHS Website. One of the points is ''work over poles will be included.'' What does this entail? I have only just come back into riding after a break from it and I want to furthermy riding now. Thanks in advance. Good luck to all those sitting exams,

work over poles in the stage 1 exam means that you will be asked to ride over (most likely) three poles in trot in "light seat" position - preparation for jumping in the stage 2 exam. work over poles is a minimal section of the riding exam, but you will need to have a fairly tidy and secure balanced position.
good luck with your exam!

When I did my Stage 1 exam, we had to do 3 poles at E (or B) and then come round and across a second set of 3 poles across the long diagonal. All in trot in the light seat - not too bad as long as you do some practice so you're OK at balancing!!!!

Good luck!

hey my names robyn, and i read your message. all workiing over poles intails, is that you are able to work over a series of trotting poles, both in rising trot, and the light seat. its quite easy, jst dont look down at the poles... look forward!!! hee hee I have my stage 1 tomorrow at brinsbury college, and im quite nervous, so fingers crossed!! if you do take your exam, then best of luck, im sure you will be fine.
