Why is it so important that STAR owns shares in the club? why not just give them back, or some of them, for further sale? I'm a supporter of this club like everyone else and i'd only buy shares in the club in order to give funds to the club. Why should we own shares in order to protect the future of the club against its own board???? What would make the future of STAR any more trustworthy than the board???
STAR represents some of the fans, which i don't doubt for a minute. I do not recall many fans being asked what should be done with STAR's shares of the club, maybe im wrong. I'm pretty certain 90% would want them to be sold to other fans to generate the maximum income, whether they are members of STAR or not. Not all fans wish to be a member of STAR, so STAR should realise that they need to sit like for like with the board, because they aren't a full representation of Altrincham FC fans. STAR trying to sit on the board whilst not acting as an equal board member only serves to segregate the fan-base further. That is the last thing we need!
If you ask me or any other fan with any common sense, its not important for the fans to have a share of the club, its important that the club has a future that the fans can look forward to! With in-fighting like this the clubs enemies will stand around laughing whilst we destroy ourselves!
I don't care about STAR or its board members, i care about Altrincham FC. I pay money to the club in many different forms, through STAR and other channels for one reason: To help the club and allow me to have a club to support!
All these people seem to be concerned with who is offending who, or who struck the first blow when the club ruptured with STAR. What is actually important is that we move forward with the current board of directors and allow them to carry on with the good work they have undertaken!
HERE HERE TO GOODWIN AND CO., AND LONG MAY YOU REIGN!!!!!!!!
I think it's the concensus that Geoff Goodwin and co are marvellous..I'd be happy if they stayed around forever and they could have all the shares as far as I'm concerned.
Some people (me included) however see the shares as a small reward and an important incentive to continue our support of the club and go that bit extra. STAR haven't got that many shares left anyway!!(there's something like 130,000 shares elsewhere) perhaps STAR members should sell their houses as that would raise money for the club? Everyone seems to think there is a divine right for STAR to work hard on behalf of all the fans but not get anything back in return apart from a battering when they are slow to react to demands.
STAR selling shares is a short term money spinner unless the buyers of the shares are then told "why do you have shares...you could sell them and raise money for the club" and so on infinitum.
A few years ago the share issue was so important we put banners up around the ground..it was mentioned these shares could raise money or be put into the hands of someone who would bring in investment or deserved them more (ie the board or STAR) than the old shareholders.
We are in a good position now...no-one knows the future.
Maybe STAR should sell it's shares..meaning there is no reason for STAR (it is a Trust) so we need another SAFE (supporters assoc).....
Geoof Goodwin says the past does not equal the future but it seems to me we're going backwards.
Maybe the solution is for STAR to hold a nominal 500 shares?
Or maybe STAR should sell it's shares as long as the board sell a matching proportion of theirs in a repeat of the last sale? as Ecky argued, why should one side do something when the other party deosn't? seems fair to me.
There is an important point to be made about war though. Why do things which could drive Goodwin out when he is doing a good job? We should stick together! Go Goodwins!
