Baker eh Marquis?

June 19 2006, 10:49 PM

Despite your original promptings causing much response about him not going from various Southport fans.

I think their shooting themselves in the foot somewhat here. They should accomodate a few of their part time players like Bury did a few years back, is their squad that good or their replacements of such high quality that they can discard Baker (highly rated but I only saw him in the home game when he was ok-good), Pickford (a big favourite by all accounts) and Dickenson ( an even bigger favourite)?

They should realise that they could get all the best part time players (in a way that we prob can't at the moment) from the NW. The thing is we just assume players can go full time, i mean if some1 asked me or thee will u go full time we say 'of course' but it's not a decision we'd ever have to make and in reality it isn't that straight forward is it?

Think Sport are a good lot meself (always a half decent fixture in Unibond days and bring 300+ in conf) just missing a trick here. Presume GH has been on the case just to check anyway.

Which of their players (who kept themselves up on merit) could you have here? notice to Portchat users - just passing the time to pre season, don't get worked up about this thread.

It's not his unwillingness to go full time, he wants to. The issue is the money he has been offered. It's shockingly bad

Question Mellow,

June 19 2006, 11:09 PM

I meant PortChat sorry, God knows how hostile and seculer Prot chat would be!

Peter Thompason, you guyts aren't impressed at all are you? Now I've tried to suppress all Unibond/ConfN memories bar April-May 2005 as you'll understand. The whole thing was endurance eh? BUT waht is he like as a player, fancy dan, big target man, poacher? The thing is we're pretty desperate I think for any1 who can hold the ball up a little bit, it not Rods game and we need some1 to help Colin Little out, he's been a God for us but can't be all things to all men so if PT can hold play up a bit it'll make sense.

Sure GH wouldn't entertaina any poor attitudes so just wondering if you think he could offer us anything (base it on what you saw of us last season if you like)? Be as honest as you like.

By the way
- which Port players may become available?
- why are you going ft now when you wouldn't countenance it with Wright title challengingish side?
- Paul Cook? Happy or not? If he's another Mike Marsh I guess fair enough but seems a bit of a gamble (cheap option?)
- How good was that Fa CUp match in 95 when Francey got an injury time winner? (Sorry!)

Re: Question Mellow,

So many questions!

Peter thomson is without doubt one of the strangest alty signings of the summer. Physically he looks the part, mentally there's nothing there. Powerful shot, terrible header for a big man, touch of a rapist.

He was also a disruptive influence in the dressing room. The day we sold him was the day we turned it round. I think he'll have been kicked out of alty by christmas.

As for players becoming available, you'll need to make your bid quickly. Liam will be taking a few to burscough, he attracts a strong loyalty, and despite many of them not being good enough for the conference, they'll be awesome in the unibond.

I think this issue will run and run. The offers to players like baker are poor. They'll have to up the money to the top lads. He's not the only one though!

Why are we going full time? I can't answer that. I've argued that we can't afford it. Today is the first of many episodes that will demonstrate that fact.

As for paul cook, I don't think anything about him. Looks okay on paper but we didn't need a new manager, we needed a new chairman. If people believe liam's reasons for leaving then they really are gullible

Liams reasons?

June 19 2006, 11:31 PM

Send me a PM on this if you like but waht's the gig? LW spreading peace and harmony for pay off reasons? When I saw him with that slick back hairdo in the NLP on Sunday he looked like he was turning into Dave Pace a la Anakin SkyWalker.

After about a million rumours amidst our rollercaoster summer (i suppose technically it includes a successful Conf North campaign, 'steamrollered' it in 2 weeks easywhatsupknewwewouldcheers) I would like to see your chairman go somewhere too!

Whats YOUR beef with CC?
