| So, as the facts become more clear as the dust settles, it would appear that the following transpired:
1. Alty score, cue "Easy, Easy" (stupid chant, makes you look like seals)
2. One drunken bloke slaps a kid
3. Some others (a handful) charge at the Alty fans.
4. Alty fans dissipate.
Points 2 and 3 are completely out of order, and the offender is currently being dealt with (and hopefully his inbred associates).
BUT - there were 1000 other fans there who behaved well. As a result we are regarded as Scum, not to be invited back etc etc. I think this is a little unfair.
Last season, we had a few idiots from the BNP try to latch onto the club - leaving leaflets in the stands and the like. These people were self-policed out of the ground. To an extent that half a dozen of the FC fans are now targeted on redwatch (the BNPs "to be slapped" list).
We are trying to go about building a club in the right way - and things like this - pitch incursions etc etc hurt the clubs image. We need to be whiter-than-whiter because everyone is waiting for us to mess up revel in it.
Hopefully the culprits will be banned from future games.
Hope the lad who got cuffed isn't too badly hurt - best of luck this season.
Mike :) |

Ecky (Login markecky) Admins | Its is a stupid chant.. | July 20 2006, 7:30 PM |
but I doubt the kids who did it were thinking "I wonder if that 45 year old tramp with one brain cell will punch me full in the face"
Lets have it right, one kid did not get a cuff. I know of 4 people who were injured. |

still very upset about the thought of our club losing support because of this.
I think most people on here know that most of the FCUM support is fine, although it does seem that the drinking culture you base things around could be starting to backfire.
I still cannot work out why so many of your fans cannot last 45 mins without a drink and why they think that openly drinking on a football terrace is fine. |

It shouldnt be played down though , i spoke to one cracking fcum fan who used to go to alty , just hope fcum police themselves better , no point in being jealous of people living around this area supporting us and not them .I hope the game in sept goes ahead . |

Sorry Mike, I was one of those Alty fans who wanted our club to have closer relations with yours. Wednesday night was the first time I have seen open fighting at Moss Lane in twenty years of following the club. Standing behind the goal and looking at the streams of people running for their lives behind me was the most frightening thing I've seen in a football ground. Not sure I like the FCUM statement blaming 'one or two' individuals for the trouble, or your posting implying that the 'easy easy' chant may have played a part - sounds like it is slowly being swept under the carpet. I totally agree that the vast majority of your fans are decent and well behaved, but it only takes a few to cause big problems. I wouldn't want to see FCUM back at Alty soon. |

Where did I state that the "Easy Easy" chant was to blame for it? It's a cr@p chant, and it was done at a friendly game.
It doesn't give one iota of an excuse to the idiots who did it. I don't think I can be any clearer than that, so don't accuse me of "sweeping it under the carpet".
The FC board will investigate the claims thoroughly, and if it finds those responsible (and I know they know at least some of them) then they will do what is necessary.
We are not a club that skips responsibility for its actions. Right now, our reputation is everything.
One punch is one too many, and I know there was more than that, but to hear some talk on here it was like the charge of the light brigade or something.
I hope those responsible are made and example of and barred from future games. but there are some people on here (and elsewhere) that are LOVING the opportunity of being able to stick the boot in on my club. |

As it certainly wasn't charge of the light brigade lets point to what did happen,
3 kids were punched by the instigator details of which are well known,
Other FCUM ( 2or 3) then kicked and punched Hugh coops and Geoff sponge at least, if alty fans hadn't have legged it it would have been a lot worse, if alty would have had a couple of similar minded psyco's it would have been worse too.
It is completely unacceptable and the above posting seems in my opinion to water down somewhat the "out of the blue" unprovoked nature of the attack.
I can see as I pointed out before how a few individuals shouldnt spoil a relationship.
PS.
Having spotted the original instigator of the trouble geturing crudely and shouting threats to alty fans prior to the second goal couldnt someone in a self policing club have had a word with him? |

I spent the first half up that end, then switched - and I saw the obnoxious individuals concerned. I was at the other end after half time, so wasn't in a position to do anything.
Thing is, you never know its going to turn into something like that - it never did last season. And I'm a young man with a family - I'm not going to go up to them lot and tell them anything unless they expressly threaten me (sorry!)
If the right people (and more of them) had been in that particular stand last night then maybe it wouldn't have happened. We're generally good at either stopping idiots from latching onto the club, or letting them know they are not welcome if they do.
I'll say again. From your own description, 3 or 4 fans got involved in stupid behaviour. There were almost a 1000 people from FC who were excellently behaved. I also know that from people in that stand that there were verbals going each way before the incident. This does not excuse what happened. I have taken my 3 year old to half a dozen games, and if it carries on like this, I'll return my season ticket and stop going. I don't want her trapped in the middle of something like this.
But once it HAD happened, what do you want us to do? It's being investigated - and the board are great lads who if something can be done, will be done (might be difficult with no arrests, no charges and it being away from Gigg Lane, but we will see). I personally apologised to 3 stewards on the way out - I was embarrassed to be associated with it.
I hope that it gets resolved, and it'd be nice if we invited the lads hurt to a complimentary game at Gigg Lane ... | |
