In recent weeks the fans of Morecambe Football Club have experienced the sad loss of two respected and established leaders in their field, both tragically affected by brain tumours.
John Clarke was a locally based journalist who has worked for national as well as local publications, and covered all the sports reports for Morecambe Football Club over a substantial number of years for the Lancashire Evening Post.
Gary Dullaghan was the Morecambe Football Club captain at the time of their promotion from the Unibond Premier Division to the then Vauxhall Conference in 1995, and led by example both on and off the pitch.
A group of fans have decided that they would do whatever they could, and have decided to take on a ‘48:HOUR CONFERENCE CLUB CHALLENGE’, with all monies raised from both business and personal sponsorship being donated to the ‘Brain Tumour UK’ charity.
The gruelling 48:Hour challenge involves visiting every club currently in the Nationwide Conference starting from Morecambe. The well planned schedule includes destinations all over the country setting off after the Morecambe v Stevenage game at 5pm on Bank Holiday Saturday and making it in time for kick off at Halifax on Bank Holiday Monday.
It is hoped that a representative from each club will meet the party of five weary travellers at each stop, and present them with a gift that can be auctioned at the end of the tour on the internet. Each club will in return be given a souvenir certificate as evidence that they took part in this challenge.
