Far the better team tonight, silly goal....was a pretty dire game all round though

And for the record, the toilets at Stafford are the worst in the world. Ever. Its just a gutter on the floor. Rubbish

One Eyed Hole

August 15 2006, 10:51 PM

Not just the bogs were bad the whole stadium was rank. How they can charge £12 admission (they even charged my 5 year old £8!)

I couln't go on Sat so I was looking forward, how disapointing. Still hoofing it up in the air, best 5 mins we had was in first half when we kept down. I thought O'Niel was a decent target man but looked shot shy. But yes we were the better team but I assume Saturdays performance was better than that.

Saturdays performance

August 15 2006, 10:57 PM

how can we go from beating one of the challengers to the title, and beating them well, to the performance that was on display tonight with the same group of players?

what was the difference? i thought stephen bushell didn't play with the freedom he did against stevenage and the long ball was simply tedious and cleary not working.

o'neill and little show promise which is a positive that can be taken from the game.

I didn't see much tonight that would suggest to me that we were the better team.

In fact I thought the two sides were very evenly matched on the night.

It should have been 0-0 but it wasn't.

Whilst the performance last night was not as good as against Stevenage, I actually thought it was a good game. Both Stafford and Alty played good defence, other than the momentary slip up which resulted in the Stafford goal. Even so, better finishing would have produced more goals.

Both sides looked evenly matched and it always looked like one mistake could decide the game, which is ultimately what happened. Obviously as we lost its more disheartening than it will have been uplifting to Stafford!

I don't see any reason to be too down as a result of that game. Three points after two games isn't that bad at all.

'largely on the back foot'

August 16 2006, 9:22 AM

So says John Laidlar's rseume on official site in the 2nd half, can't agree with that one. From our end looks like Coburn poss. at fault-then again he got us the 3 points on Saturday so can't really complain, O'Neill is a forward, he needs to have a pot if he's in a shooting position and not look to lay it off all the time. Hopefully Bowler to be fit soon, we need some pace from the off, Hendley stretches people but think he's an impact player and not a full 90 minutes yet.

Disspaointing with 250 Alty there and all the optimism from the weekend that already our away displays are showing worrying similarities to last year.

150 tops-a bit leftfield that? It was a lot more , we were't all behind the goal you know, Alty thing is to spread out along the sides. Still good support from Stafford even if they didn't manage to create much of an atmosphere (You're not singing anymore is nearly as bad as 'easy, easy')

100 behind the goal second half, 50 down the sides. Easy to tell they stand dead still when a goal go's in at the other end.

"100 behind the goal second half, 50 down the sides. Easy to tell they stand dead still when a goal go's in at the other end."

So in the three or four seconds whilst you were wildly celebrating your first Conference goal at home in over a decade you managed to accurately assess how many people were and were not celebrating in an unsegregated ground?

To be able to count away fans in an unsegregated ground is hard enough but to do it whilst you were celebrating is bloody fantastic.

Why Thank You

August 16 2006, 2:54 PM

So we had 250 there then ! More than what I thought. Marvellous

100 Behind the goal and '50 down the sides', which there are 3 more sides to your ground (just about ) making it a total of 250

THANKS A LOT !

Re: 'largely on the back foot'

Still say we look better than last season and when we kept it on the floor we looked better than them. We weren't being undone by anything and it was a mistake which cost us a point.

The game had a 0-0 all over it until a lapse in the defence cost us a point.

Shame it took a goal down before we put pressure on them in the second half and if the game went on another 5minutes I think we would have defo got something. Unfortunatly it didn't (as games don't last 95mins plus injury time )

I am still happy with 3pts out of the first two games and still think we are better than last season.

We have to pick up points at home and just see what we can get in the away matches.

GREAT SUPPORT FROM EVERYONE and if anything we got louder when we went 1-0 down. Not many fans sing a team off the pitch after a defeat, mind you some don't even bother when they win !!!

Flag Burning

August 16 2006, 7:20 PM

As a Manchester based Stafford fan, you're right, burning the flag is a complete disgrace. As always, every club has a few idiots. Please don't confuse these louts with the rest of us Stafford fans. Interestingly it is these Stafford 'fans' who are always complaining about the behaviour of other clubs fans! They won't know whats hit them when they decide to mess with fans from a club that fight back.

As for the game, the best report I have read is on your official website. A very honest and detailed analysis of the game. It puts our 'official' website to shame. They still haven't bothered to update it with a report!

Anyway, good luck with the rest of season. Lucking forward to the return match already. It's nearest match for me now that we're out of the Conference North!
