Let's be honest, who didn't expect us to take a hammering somewhere along the line with a defence that is so short of pace?

We had a chance to get back into the game via Colin Little at 2-0 down....but then they notched their third and it became just a matter of how many they would score.

To be honest, I just don't see Joe O'Neill ever scoring for us.
He runs around but seems to have his back to goal more often than not and his rare shots have been feeble, powderpuff efforts.

Response from other side of ground

September 4 2006, 4:06 PM

Left early in order to get home or would have come in Bar for chat.
Back not good!
Worried about leaving too early not done it before but lucky to have a match like that to walk out on.

Who was the moaner in the main stand? VoD?

The two guys who are normally in the stand were standing yesterday, but i do not think they will stand again or sit?

Met a guy who had come for the first time and spent 35 quid getting his family in, won't be going back.

All in all 3 players in first half Little was good and difficult with O Neil- worst player i have seen at Moss lane for a while, looks like confidence but that will take time with the crowd, (thought the main stand was bad for moaners).
Aspinall poor sod got too much of the ball in the first half and with nobody running into the chanels looked bad.
Bushel only midfielder on the ground and looked a class act, nobody on the same wavelength. the rest were crap, inc the goalie.
No imagination anywhere, very poor.

"Met a guy who had come for the first time and spent 35 quid getting his family in, won't be going back."

I take it you explained to him the financial situation, how we had played well in the previous home games and won both, how these things happen, how it wasn't always like this, how he should give us another chance?

Its very much up to you mate. Every supporter must do all he or she can to promote a positive image of the club. Some people find it very hard though.

Sentiments

September 6 2006, 10:05 AM

Your sentiment is great, and it is great to try and keep supporters but the only way you will kep supporters is by playing good football and most of all winning.

You cannot convince people to remain supporters by asking for second chances, you are in cuckoo land

why do you think we have 800 for conference and 500 for unibond? It is not because they love coming to see the team lose badly?? they get fed up and go.

The Manager and then the players are there to make sure people come back.

Re: Response from other side of ground

we say theres no pace in defence, but i dont recall any of their goals outstripping the back 4 for speed and being one on one with stuart? its about positioning and anticipation and sadly we were lacking in this yesterday, dont forget this is the same side that started against stevenage, its the same as last season its whatever team turns up on the day.we didnt look sharp enough in the first half, they looked quicker maybe its a mental thing, the players will know theyve let the fans down but im sure they're hurting themselves. roll on wednesday and lets get a win.

No, it was not me. It was a guy with 2 lads sat just in front of me, who really let rip at GH, as a result of which GG came up to have a word with him.

I trained him well11111111111

Lawton is not the man we need

September 4 2006, 4:26 PM

Never mind criticising O'Neill who did have a poor game the real culprit is Lawton who is never in the right position leaves Hazza exposed too often rarely gets up to head the ball and seems incapapable of finding another player in an Alty shirt. He lets down the defence, he lets down the midfield and he fails to support the attack. He also lacks pace.

There were times on sunday where we almost established a platform on which to build and get back into the game most notably in the latter part of the first half where if we had gone in 1-2 it would have been a fair reflection of play. D and Rs 3 rd goal was the killer it was well taken but it came from a breakaway after a prolonged period of Alty pressure. All 5 goals were gifts but the 3 in the second half were also well taken. All in all tho we made Dand R look better than they really are by sloppy defending

very bad sunday

September 5 2006, 2:16 PM

I would agree with your comment over Joe, he gives 100% but lacks confidence and the killer instinct! His previous clubs appear to show no sign of a goal glut?

We did not play well or compete enough for the ball, they appeared faster, fitter and more hungry! They pounced every time we got the ball.

I believe we need a good winger (hurry up Colin and get fit), or perhaps Justin will prove me wrong as I believe he is no better than Norton?

Hopefully Graham can bring back the Pride and Passion for the next game against R&D?

It was a pity for any newcomers as it would put them off, results will possibly bring them back?

Re: very bad sunday

September 5 2006, 3:06 PM

This thing about people not coming back.

I would reckon that they would not be fans of Altrincham FC (yet) as it would be their first game so whats the problem. To go to a game and watch 5 goals go in is surely value for money ?

As my mate said he'd seen 5 goals, been entertained by Dagenham and the fans songs. He is not an Altrincham fan and never planned to be he just wanted to watch a game of football and he certainly got value for money.

If people want to turn up for one game and thats all their going to give it then its no great loss as far as I'm concerned. These are the type of people who could do damage against all the hard work that has been done at the football club by demanding success week in and week out. If they want to watch a winning team every week I suggest they look at the Premiership results at 4.45 and pick a team thats won to support on Match of the Day.

How many people on here would watch Alty if the first match you went to determined whether you were going to go again ?

Sorry but freak results happen and I bet these people would be back for a big FA Cup game or if results pick up.

"Rocky Shag the Duck", possibly the funniest thing ive ever seen, rivalled only by Sharky twatting the Gloucester Mascot when i went to watch Sale In Glos!!!

First time

September 6 2006, 10:18 AM

1960 or so and sporadic trips thereafter
Paddy Pheonix, ernie taylor, mitten, et al
I think we won

first real match remember all the game was Bangor City in the FA Cup I think we won 3-2 I was at the golf road end when it was a grassy bank but a great view, I always said they built the terracing to shallow.

Golf road in those days once the terracing was put in was really good, great singing, I remembr once when Maccs game was called off and they came to ours to support the other team and they came in the golf road with Flags etc and banded with the other team, they were not in there for long as we chased them out to the side, great night nobody hurt! we were tasty in those days though, any one remember that?great travelling support as well.

2800 on the ground regular, we were also each week in the manchester evening news in a section they called spot the face and you won money, we were in most weeks with either utd or city good days

don,t ask questions like remember the old days, we would have beat the dagenham side the other day maybe 3-1

Re: First Time

September 6 2006, 1:48 PM

I was there that day and along with the Championship winning game at Chester, when Jackie scored 7 out of 8, are games I'll never forget. My first time is a tad hazy as I can recall not taking a lot of interest in the games but do have recollections of the Charlie Mitten, Tommy Banks and John Higgins era!

My first time

September 6 2006, 3:30 PM

Mine was a game most people probably remember, as it was only last season!
It was Scarborough and we drew 1-1. The thing I remember most is the abuse their keeper got for being so overweight. He personally turned round and called me a 'f***er' for booing him when he was retrieving the ball. Brilliant!!!

A year later and i find that ive bought nearly every item in the club shop and have hardly missed a game.

Alty v Mazda

September 7 2006, 9:31 PM

I think that this game was played on July 26th 1991 as I seem to remember that it was my son Niall's' christening on the following Sunday. It was my debut on the P.A.(We couldn't afford the likes of Ecky or Rafo then!!!).

I remember looking at the team sheet & thinking "**** me".

I couldn't resist signing off as the players trooped off the pitch with "it's goodnight from me & Sayonara from them".

I thank you!!!

Ronnie Corbett
