The reason why Daria is a great character is that she is put into a realistic environment with slightly exaggerated yet still realistic people. She knows exactly what to say and when and how to say it. She does not stutter or hesitate. Anybody who likes the show likes her because she always says precisely what they wished they had said, or would say, in the same situation. The show comes as close as it can to being unrealistic in that Daria is so good at reacting to nearly anything while still retaining a realistic feel to it. Life would be like this if we all knew what we were in for and if we could rehearse for it. But we can't so we try to enjoy the similarities achieved in the show. Also, it's a fun place to quote from. In addition to being a good talker, Daria becomes admirable by a seemingly unimportant trait: she is a girl. Maybe this is just societal sexism rearing its ugly head on the side of females, but if Daria was not a girl, but a guy instead, he would seem petty. Just a wise-cracking, nerdy, and stubborn punk. There is just something much more admirable about a cynical, realistic girl than a cynical, realistic guy. Why? I don't know. By the way, I am a guy. And my name is not really Cranverro, for those of you thinking I live in the Ozarks or Montana.
