the hives are a great example of the new in thing 'ie swedish garagerock blah blah' being hyed up to fuck by the national indie wank mags and hey presto everybody loves them.

i think they're a great band, yeah i only started likeing them but thats because i'd never heard of them before!!!

however i still can't get why the strokes are headlining, they got popular around the same time as the hives but headlining, what, i just don't get it, look at the other top acts there (e.g. prodigy, Foo's, G&R) they've been around ages and have been popular for ages, then here come some band i reckon they must know some people somewhere, i just don't get it?

I agree bands like these give hard working bands a bad name, putting out any tat with squealing shite over muffled noise, they should try and learn to play their instruments like nofx,lagwagon,batfink(ssdd),pennywise and so on and so fourth

There's always a slot like that - sometimes they're in negotiation with an act, sometimes it's a "sweetener" for a band who might wish to be higher on the bill. In 1987 the Stranglers were billed as special guests to Alice Cooper who was headlining. Given their respective reputations at the time (and the fact it's Britain) the Stranglers should have topped the bill, but no way was Alice going to settle for being second, hence the Stranglers billing as "special guests."

Noticed on my email from MFO that the Hives slot had been replaced with "special guests"
Think they meant to have the Hives refered to as this all along / they've pulled out and dont know whoz gonna fill the gap yet?

just a thought, isnt the hives headlining the 'lost weekend'????, and doesnt MF tend to do " ONLY UK FESTIVAL APPEARANCE!" bands?, could that be the reason???
