Reading in early 80s

I was looking at time line page. 1980 UFO head line!! Fantastic! 82 Iron Maiden, Micheal Shenker, 93 Black Sabath, Thin Lizzy. I wish I were there then. I was a little girl, got my very first watch in 1980.

Those were the fucking days, when headlining acts had talent and were actually exciting live. This year, Foo Fighters and Prodigy are pretty good, but...erm...the strokes? Oops.

dont worry about the strokes i'm sure the NME will build up any performance they make,no matter how poor,as "the greatest ever".

the prodigy are fucking awful-the strokes have brought so much decent music back to the charts (hives, vines, white stripes), even though we still have to put up with the evil music of nickelback and creed etc.

how can you be maniacle about 1 album. and the bands you listed are all arse. the prodigy are huge and have many albums. the strokes have 1. they are nme mascots. and teenage girls are the people who bought the album because of julian. they're crap

oh dear

<sigh>

listen,the strokes are a average band,good enough but over hyped.the NME have managed to push them as the head of some big music movement but truth is they havent influenced anyone.
the rabid fervor that some fans of the band have is puzzling,play them some blondie,ramones or iggy pop & the strokes remind you of a britpop band trying to hide their influences under the guise of "homage".
the prodigy made the last great rockn'roll single (firestarter) to chart.nothing else has really matched it since.

a great number will watch both bands & Reading & enjoy both without any musical snobbery or bias that seems to becoming a regular feature at the festival in the last few years.

so basically,enjoy the strokes but they are nowhere near the godlike status that some blindly put in them.

</sigh>

they

July 16 2002, 2:19 PM

are touted as being brilliant and inspirational when they are just average and it annoys me the way their fans seem to think they're the best thing since music

Alex my man...you know your stuff. Oh and to whoever said that the Strokes have made bands like the White Stripes and the Hives to follow them....they have all been around a lot longer than the Strokes. The hives have at least 3 albums out....I know that much and I aint that big a fan of them.

none of them enjoyed any form of commercial success before the strokes....and who said 'firestarter' was the last great rock single? is that a joke or something?

you say the teenage girls bought the album cos of "julian" who i think is the lead singer

yea but they have to be the ugliest band in the music industry, even eclipsing the ugliness of n sync. i mean jeez they are hideous, isnt on of them like, papa lazarou jr. or something, the tall lanky bitch? now thats a nasty face.

i think it ses for the fact that they didnt buy the album for the singers looks.

adding to my previous point , a good example of this would be,

you wouldnt eat a small really nice looking cake (or something) if it was surounded with shit pies, would you.

so their music has to have something about it.
