Next year`s headliners.......

September 17 2002 at 6:01 PM
moz

This is who I THINK will be headlining next year. Not my choice, just who i think will be headlining...

Friday: Coldplay
Saturday:Super Furry Animals
Sunday :Chilli Peppers

My choice of headline contenders (some more realistic than others)....

Pantera
MotorHead
Maiden
Metallica
Judas Priest
Korn- Although they`re suggested every year. Most of these bands would be ozzfest bound anyways. I can always dream....

ANy thoughts?

DaveyC - I reckon you're 100 per cent there. I was betting (not that I DO bet, you understand) on those three myself. Blur's (apparent;y) departed guitarist won't matter, as they'll continue without him quite happily.

As an aside, I'm not going to post any more until I can work out a suitable means of getting shot of the impersonator(s). Apart from slagging off the Strokes (though I did find myself enjoying their new single the other night...) I wouldn't abuse or offend anyone who takes the time to post here. I like being able to answer people's questions and it's sad that one idiot is going to prevent that. Please stick with the forum - I'm going to investigate the options it allows. I can trace the miscreant's IP address, and it should be plain sailing from there.

Cheers for now

Reg

I am also afraid to be inclined to think that the headliners will be those that daveyc mentioned. coldplay would kind of 'do a travis' from 2001, as long as they go on after a similar band to greenday (i.e energetic, and mean ppl could chill to coldplay). new blur stuff may kinda suck if they continue along the same theme as that 'music is my radar' song. As for the chilis, i think that would be an all round pleaser, though i haev seen them live and anthony kaedis cant sing live for shit. Oh well, thats my two cents.....

i think that Coldplay and blur are pretty good guesses as for the rock day and rock headliner...the chill's are one option but i reckon it could be someone like the manics

I reckon the Rock Day could be headlined by either Metllica or Limp Bizkit as both should have new albums out next year.

Stereophonics will be round somewhere (probably headlining) cause they've got a new album soon

I would love Ash to headline. i maybee wrong but i dont actually think they've headlined the main stage of a major festival yet

manics...

If i remember correctly they headlined in 2001, So headlining 2 our of 3 years would be a bit much. It's too early to say really, you never know who's gonna hit it big in a year, or who will have a new album out around the time of the fastival. I mean who would've guessed The Strokes headlining this year???

Headliners in 2003

September 18 2002, 12:43 PM

I'd like to see Chilis or Korn, or Limp Bizkit headlining on rock day at Reading next year. Is it possible for a band to headline 2 years in a row cus I really wanna see The Foos. 100 Reasons back on the main stage too. Reckon Coldplay would be excellent. What I really want is Linkin Park to play next year though - Any day as long as it's on main stage.

Weren't Metallica supposed to be playing this year? I'd heard that there was some dispute with mf over the slot they were offered, and in the end they didn't come.

More Bands for Reading 2003

September 19 2002, 10:51 AM

Hed P.E? I know they played 2001, and their performance was poor compared to their normal indoor sets. But they have got/are bringing out a new album soon. Like to see AFI play too... dunno if theyve ever played Reading. Are Megadeth still around? System of a down can play again - but thats doubtful as they've played here 3 times in last 2 years.

Maybe Blink182 for some light hearted entertainment too :)

WELL.....

September 19 2002, 11:23 AM

Megadeth would be nice, but they split up a few months ago following Dave Mustaine`s arm injuries. But was is this you say of System of a Down? Played here 3 times in the past two years? Surely thats a complete lie. They`ve only been around for 4 or 5 years, and they didn`t play Reading in 99, 2000 or 2002. But who cares....SYSTEM!!!!! ANd PANTERA!!!!

Don't criticize my system judgement

September 21 2002, 11:40 PM

Well I saw them at Reading 2001 and at Brixton in March 2002. And then they played Ozzfest 2002. Now to me...thats....3 TIMES IN 2 YEARS!

Sorry, but to say that I'm a complete liar is...well...a complete lie :)

And Pantera would be nice - if only just for Mouth For War.

Limp Bizkit? :(

September 18 2002, 6:01 PM

Limp Bizkit were dire in 2000, I'm not a fan, but they were terrible, I couldn't stand Fred Durst's whiney "Rollin'" crap.. I'm sorry I just had to say it.. I really am sorry..

Headliners never come back the year after sadly, or NOT AT ALL SADLY if you look at Eminem in 2001.

Limp Bizkit didn`t perform Rollin in Reading 2000, because choc starfish wasn`t out yet. The only song they sung from that album was Take a Look Around. Sorry for being a fussy bastard!

Limp bizkit....

September 18 2002, 4:19 PM

Interesting suggestion. I think they`ve really had the bad end of the stick over the past year or so, thanks mainly to Choc Starfish being crap. The first two albums are really good, and when I saw them at Reading 2000 they were damn good. I wouldn`t mind seeing how they`d fare without Wes Borland...so it would be good to see them next year. Anyways...PANTERA is what I want!

I think you have some good suggestions there with COldplay and the chillis, but i cant see the super furrys headlining, possibly playing but not that high up. someone like Korn (like you said, they gotta play it eventually!!) or even Blur might return (can't wait for that...)

Nickelback will prob play next year, possilby creed?? Blink 182 maybe, lostprophets?? Papa ROach?? Filter?Disturbed?? I'm not into rock at all, as you can tell, no really....
