I'm having ISP trouble (again) and can't get a connection to update the news. So here it is:

Glastonbury 2003: licence refused 13.12.2002
The licence for Glastonbury 2003 was refused at a public meeting last night (December 12). The vote went narrowly against (five votes to four) granting Michael Eavis a licence. The main objections related to the security arrangements and criminal activity in and around the festival site, although environmental concerns were also raised. A small group of local residents were particularly vocal in their objections, despite assurances from the organisers relating to improved security and sanitation. Michael Eavis stated after the council meeting that he will be lodging an appeal.

Reading highlights on Radio 1 13.12.2002
The Radio 1 Rock Show will broadcast highlights from Reading of Raging Speedhorn, Amen and Hundred Reasons on Christmas Eve, plus highlights of Korn in Manchester. The show goes out between midnight and 2am. Beats Midnight Mass... just make sure you're fast asleep when Santa arrives.

REM for T in the Park 13.12.2002
REM are to headline the Saturday night at next year's T in the Park festival which takes place on July 12/13 in Scotland. For more, see www.tinthepark.com. They were also hotly tipped for Glastonbury, but any announcement will have to wait until after an appeal against the licence refusal.

ATP 2003 details 13.12.2002
Next year's All Tomorrow's Parties will take place at Camber Sands Holiday Camp on April 4-6 and will be compered by Autechre. Acts appearing include Aphes Twin, Earth, The Fall, LFO and Jim O'Rourke. Tickets (including chalet accomodation) are £110 per person. For further details, see www.alltomorrowsparties.co.uk

In a further development...

...Official: The Strokes hate Fat Reg!

Yes, they do, and here's why: In an attempt to discover what all the fuss was about, I recorded a couple of Strokes live broadcasts from the radio (Birmingham Academy and Reading 2002), and burned them onto a CD.

I then decided that perhaps a Strokes fan would like it, so put it up for sale on ebay.co.uk. Lo and behold if the Strokes didn't get all arsey about it and demand that the CD was removed from sale for copyright infringement.

Okay, so I was infringing copyright, but I was never going to be able to retire to the Bahamas on the proceeds of one poxy CD. And they've denied fans the chance to get hold of a perfect quality recording that the band will never release anyway. Tossers, as I suspected.

Still, it's nice to think that they're aware of me for something other than yelling "Fuck off, you're shit" throughout their 2001 Reading set, isn't it?

So funny. What a bunch of idiots! Why don't you 'auction' it off here? If there are no real fans here then do it for a laugh anyway.

I'll give you £2.50 for it! That'll nearly buy you a pint at Reading...... OOh! I can see you're having to think about it....

The Strokes and NME

December 16 2002, 9:05 PM

in the NME published the week after reading they had apparently done a vote to see which people fave band of the weekend was and suprisingly out of about 100 odd acts the strokes won around 3 or 4 the poll's and some of them by about 30%, who were they asking these questions to ??
