| wow really constructive responses | June 26 2003, 12:02 PM |
i dont no when the line up is gonna be finalised but the tents gonna be a safe haven for me, no chance of any greasy fuckin goth or nu-metal kiddy poking their misrable head in that place, dance isnt 'poo' reading used to cater for a wide variety of music, like all the other festivals do. Now, thanks to the irrating new breed of limp bizkit / slipknot pop muppets, reading attracts people who refuse to endorse any other kind of musical genres unless some twat in cap is screaming about hatin everythin and everyone, and your all supposedly dressed like freekin idiots coz 'your individual' and dont care about trends and everyone can be themselves. yeah? well how come you can only be individaul by dressing like everyone else thinkin like everyone else and closin yourself off to any other form of music! Sorry for the rant if anyone does know who maybe added to the dance stage could they put a post up. |

Quite the hypocrite, aren't we? I'm no fan of nu-metal either, but you moan about people not giving dance music a look-in, but then do exactly the same to nu-metal?
Reading probably caters for a wider variety of music that it ever has, however it is and always has been primarily a rock festival, or at least thats how I see it, seeing as 90% of the bands play some form of rock music. On the whole, there's very little commercial nu-metal on the line-up this year, which would attract these mini-moshers you speak so highly of. They do my head in too, but i'd rather be surrounded by them than a load of pillheads going around starting fights with "greasy fuckin goths" for no reason other than the fact that they dont like what they wear and listen to different music. I'm not saying everyone who likes dance music is a pillhead who would do that sort of thing, but I'm just showing you how easy it is to stereotype something you know nothing about.
So I suggest if you don't want to be surrounded by people who listen to other types of music other than dance, go to Gatecrasher or something. |

| I care | June 26 2003, 6:18 PM |
And so does everyone I'm going with. You could debate that the majority of the music in the Dance Tent at Reading and leeds is not Dance, but leftfield electronic music and hip hop. Open your mind a little and ignore the labels and names for types of music. They're for NME journos with nothing better to do. |

It's true sadly, no one really does care.. During all my visits to Reading I have probably wanted to see maybe 10 - 15 people in the Dance Tent and have only bothered to watch one and even that was for only 10 minutes.
The truth is that it's almost always empty which is a shame. I have walked past it many times thinking "wow, who's that??" but when you go in and see four people in the place you sort of move on, or I do anyway. My guess is that although everyone talks about people in the Dance Tent and wanting to see them that when it comes to doing it "on yer tod" interest is lost.
Mind you it's better than the Evening Session Stage most of the time, they seem to be gifted at either having the best bands of the festival or the most detestible utter shitebollocks indy wankers and "concept" artists. |
