there would probably be some really cool band in a tent at the same time so whats the point of getting rid of "fiddy" just cos he isnt your taste, some people might like him, personally i hate him but if he plays then i can act "compton ass" all day :D
Well the ticket costs more this year and the whole line up is worse. Last year we had Metalica and their fireworks, loads of people watched that and the atmosphere was great. This year we're gonna have 50 Cent covered in sh*t! They could at least put someone on the main stage on the last night that people want to watch, and so far alot of people have signed the petition. If 50 Cent goes he shouldn't put him on the main stage.
true but i can't see them having him as second headliner, they'd probably have him on earlier in the day if not its gonna be shit but then the headliners usually suck.
he definitely will be 2nd headliner because hes been announced this early. if he wasnt going to be 2nd headliner then he would have been announced as "also playing" like the streets and lostprophets have been
I can assure there are plenty of people who will stay and watch 50 cent (me not being one of them) because I'm even considering not going because the lineup is so damn poor.
My point being that there are probably just as many people who think that the White Stripes and The Darkness should piss off and never come back again, and we thought the same thing about The Strokes! There's not a lot you can do about a crap band playing but it gives you the opportunity to go watch another band, too many good bands playing IS a bad thing. Believe me.
Hehe I don't think too many good bands'll be a problem this year! I know some people must like 50 Cent, White Stripes and the Darkness, but I don't want to see any of them. I hope the line up gets better....
Likewise... :) My hope is that all the tickets don't disappear before a large portion of the lineup has been announced. Because as it stands I'm very reluctant to buy a ticket. The Saturday is looking dire and was saved last year for me by the concrete jungle so I'm hoping for a good lineup there.
Wow, u lot are sooo sad. why do u feel u have to chuck bottles at him?? its pathetic. if artists come to the U.K its to see there fans not have abuse hurled at them. if this keeps happeneing they will just stop coming. u losers!
I think 50 Cent is just an unavoidable glimpse of things to come.. For some reason, nearly everyone at least "sort of likes" hip hop, so it stands to reason if you stick a rapper on stage people will like him..
Seasoned metalheads like myself will have piss bottles at the ready but its the way the festival is going, 2001 I thought was going to bring the return of metal to the festival, It had easily the most "metal" or "numetal" lineup I have seen since Metallica last played, the music industry seemed to be revolving around new metal bands and things all of a sudden bands like Arch Enemy and In Flames were coming to the forefront and things looked good, then hip hop took over, then people started "spoofing" metal ie. Darkness and Busted, now its light hearted family entertainment rather than metal.. bring back Bruce Dickinson, sort all you fucking rap freaks out..
Besides who wants to watch a man dressed in the cleanest, brightest most expensive tracksuit in the world shout over a backing track about money and cars? Your at a festival for Christ's sake, your wearing a Nirvana t-shirt, covered in filth and stoned off your balls, it's not exactly the most suitable set for such ocassions..
Well, I know I'm knocking on a bit, but I do at least TRY and stay in touch, but I don't think I've ever heard 50 Cent (is that his appearance fee, by the way? Whatever, it's a crap name...).
The point is, there will be around 200 acts on over the course of three days - it would be astonishing indeed if everybody liked all the artists playing, or even tolerated all of them. And how would you decide who to go and see?!
Crap bands are an excuse to check out anopther stage, get more beers in, hang out with your mates in the campsite, get a quick power nap, go shopping... or anything you fancy.
Personally, I reckon the White Stripes and the Darkness will be awesome headliners (and I don't often look forward to the headliners). But then, I like both those bands. I can't say I'm at all bothered about Green Day, but I imagine a fair few people will be (even if their heyday was about ten years ago...). I'll be back at the tent, warming myself by the fire and chugging a few more beers.
I still think the whole festival experience will be the same as ever - fantastic.
personally i'm not a fan of "fiddy" at all but people who do throw bottles and shit.. they are the biggest dickf*cks of all... Whatever happened to respecting other music, pretty much most the music artists respect each other even if the genre's are different so why if someone who is a rapper is on stage, would you throw stuff at them, Reading is a huge festival which i guess does its best to cater for most so i'm sure there'll be a band you prefer to watch on at the same time, it's ridiculous.. like with Good Charlotte, ok they make pop music.... if you don't like pop music why would you stay and watch them, the same goes for 50cent this year. No matter wether you like him or not a lot of people will and he's the sort of name to attract a lot of different people who might not usually go 2 reading / leeds. Either way i don't actually like 50cent so this is a bit unusual for me ... it's just people booing bands and throwing stuff at them, they're ALWAYS the people who will NEVER be on that stage themselves
My brief thoughts.................................................
April 1 2004, 5:50 PM
I dont really throw things at artists because of their music. I am a metalhead, Slayer, pantera etc. but i also like good hiphop like NWA, old Snoop Dog and Wu Tang Clan. I dont like Fiddy but i wont by throwing things at him because of his c(rap)..........I'LL THROW THINGS AT HIM BECAUSE HE IS A HOMOPHOBIC TWAT. HE'S GONE ON RECORD AS SAYING FAGS SHOULD STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM HIM BECAUSE HE DOESNT LIKE THE WAY THEY THINK AND THE THOUGHTS THEY MIGHT HAVE TOWARDS HIM.
That is why 50 cent will be getting my bootle in his face, because twats like that dont deserve a main stage place.
"Piss Bottles" at the ready isn't exactly accurate, I don't do that, more of a figure of speech than affirmative action..
I did throw lots of bottles at Slipknot fans in 2000 but most of them were punching themselves in the face anyway, never could understand why..
I WON'T be watching him, so I don't care, but to be honest, I don't really think he fits into the festival vibe, I reckon even "Fiddy" fans would better appreciate a band that gets people "going" the atmosphere cannot be the same with a rapper on the stage and I don't care what anyone says it CANNOT..
What's more, I'm a pretty good guitarist and I'm in a pretty good band, our biggest deals have been supporting Vader, Katatonia and Kreator.. not the biggest bands in the world but hey we're trying and we have some label interest too which might be good so fingers crossed I might yet make it onto that stage..
