March 30 2004 at 11:38 PM

Just read this on www.wayahead.com as I know lots of people enter the site on the Wednesday, but have you normaly had to pay an extra £10?

Campsite opens Thursday 26th August, closes Midday Monday 30th August. If anyone wishes to enter the site from 6pm on Weds 25th August an entry permit of 10 pounds is payable. Permits are available via 08701-500044

cheers

Nah, you haven't had to pay in recent years. I think too many people might have started turning up then (finding out on the internet etc that you can), so they're having to pay for more security, so they're charging us for that.

Either that or they just found another way to rinse us for more money.

I think it's downright disgusting that people feel the need to go down on Wednesday. If I was Meanfiddler I'd tear up their weekend tickets if I found them on the campsites on Wednesday.

It just fucks everything up for those who come down on Thursday like you're meant to - and look what's happened because of it. £10 to come down on Wednesday which people will pay for and those who come on Thursday are going to have soo much fun finding a spot.

My hope is that these Wednesday passes are limited and they are strict about stopping people without them getting in - which could be the only thing which is good about the festival since the lineup isn't.

I'm not just considering myself, I'm considering the thousands and thousands who are forced to travel at ridiculous hours (and prices) because of those going on Wednesdays! Why don't you do what you told me to do, hummm????

Amen to that...

Why would anyone "need" to camp on wednesday? You plan the whole trip so far in advance it would be just as easy to arrange it so you get there on Thursday.

I have £25 worth of taxi fares, an hour on the plane and the good old luton airport parkway / farringdon / paddinton / reading train trip to deal with to get there so I reckon i get it as bad as most and there's nothing worse than arriving to see everyone else in the campsite with all the good spots not just taken, but ACRES of the remaining ground tagged off with tape and stuff for friends or, as we all discovered people who were willing to pay to have a site marked off.

If it wasn't for these entreprenuereursu0r fucks I wouldn't mind, hell I'd be there on Wednesday if I could but most of us work or go to uni or whatever, aint that easy..

Oh yeah and a piece of advice, the next time someone says "Uh excuse me mate that sites taken" and points at HALF OF YELLOW CAMP just say "Aye, Well I'm from Belfast" we did that last year and it worked a treat, they were scared of us for the weekend. :)

I do think its bad there trying to get an extra £10 out of people. And yeah they will pay it but it will also stop other people coming down on the Wednesday.
Basically I dont care as long as I get somewhere to camp, fuck the good and bad spots as long as im not by a busy walkway ill be fine, as its more fun walking drunkenly finding random people to talk to and having a nice peacefull place to camp when you need it etc.
Last year I got there 3pm time on thursday and there was fuck all spaces to camp really but we found a nice spot.

Well, the Wednesday fee is a way of financing the security arrangements that will be necessary. The people down on Wednesday evening will also benefit the stallholders, who will do an extra evening's business.

But for many people, Wednesday will be difficult, if not impossible - it's an extra day off work for a lot of you, after all. And an extra day's spending money will be required.

I'm still in favour of opening the site on Thursday, though.

What happens when....

April 1 2004, 11:52 AM

The ppl trying to beat the Thursday rush, who are the ones the last 2 years that have turned up on the Wednesday even knowing they weren't supposed to, but who got in anyways cus the organisers GAVE IN and let them in anyways, decide that they now need to beat the Wednesday rush? ^-^

I mean this could go on and on. what is gonna stop ppl from deciding to turn up in their hordes on the Tuesday night? It's all very well MF saying 'noone's getting in early' but that happened last year (after the ticket printing fuck up the year before) and they STILL fucking let ppl in!!

Instead of laying down the rules and sticking to them MF have decided to take the easy option and let ppl in, but to charge them for it. And I don't blame them! And like you say Reg the stall holders will benefit and the campers will no doubt be happy campers....but I think MF should have stuck to their guns and kept ppl out last year. Cus this problem could potentially get bigger and bigger...

i disagree...

April 1 2004, 12:15 PM

I came down on wednesday two yrs back cos i knew if i left on thursday that even if i got the earliest trains and everything ran on time, i wouldn't get there til 4pm, which would have made getting a space a nightmare, now with the wed pass i can arrive that time on wednesday. I understand that pisses people off, but fact is i will be working full time and this, as it has for the last 7yrs, will be my one holiday of the yr, so yeah, i want a decent space and i'm willing to take the time off work and pay the extra to get this. People bitching that it's not fair cos people can get there before them and take the good pitch, well thats exactly how i felt when i was arrivin late on a thurs and all those in closer proximity could get there earlier, at least this way people get the option of being there for opening (most people can get there by 5pm) for the sake of an extra day/half day from work, rather than the pot luck of where they live.

Hmmm...sorry....

April 1 2004, 3:25 PM

I wasn't having a go about it. I was merely trying to maintain that there will always be someone trying to beat the rush for pitches.....and someone cocky enough to try to get in earlier than allowed.

What if a thousand ppl all turn up Tuesday night with a Wednesday pass eh? That could potentially be the case in a few years time, cus the Wednesday will just metaphorically turn into the Thursday of the last few years.

It doesn't even affect me.....I'm hotelling! :)

Perhaps...

April 1 2004, 6:42 PM

...it would have been better all round to just open the campsite later on... Thursday. like it used to be. Back in the day, it didn't open until noon on Thurs. And no-one complained.

And not everyone CAN get time off to go on the Wednesday, either. Nor would everyone WANT to go on Wednesday. It's just yet another money-making scheme for Mean Fiddler, just like booking a cheap headliner (stand up, Green Day). There'll be a charge for car parking next year, I reckon, just like at Glastonbury.

Charge for parking?

April 2 2004, 7:21 AM

cheeky fuckers. hahhahahaha

You know something, as long as they reduce the price for tickets without camping they can charge me for parking. I don't think i should be charged for camping if I don't use it.

But that's another argument. ;)

I guess they'll say the camping is included, but free of charge... for the moment. Look at Download, where you can buy tickets with or without camping. The weekend tickets WITH are almost as much money as for three days at Reading!

Yes

Thats because The download line up is so much better than Reading and Leeds.

It wouldn't work though, there's no real way to stop people who haven't paid for camping from camping. So all the cheeky blighters would just go and buy 'no camping' tickets and camp anyway.

'most of us go to work or uni', who the hell goes to uni in August dude?? haha, just joshing ya. it doesnt really bother me either way. like most people i'd prefer it to just stay how its always been, but it hasn't had much of an effect on me in the last couple of years so i'm not gonna cry about it. Btw, somebody else get excited about the Dropkick Murphys playin, theyre fucken great!
