we have seen family trees of arminius and his "relatives" and there are speculations that the seg or sig part of many of the names are an indication that these people all belong to a single "clan". i have often wondered about this since, as an anthropologist, it is quite clear that most of you historians etc have little or no understanding of clans and kinship. it would be interesting with a bit of debate on this topic. what kind of groups within the cheruski are fighting for supremacy and why? there are different kinds of clans across the world but in the arminius context it seems that the term clan is used for a political subdivision within the tribe... well well, what do you people have to say about this problem?
