RECHERCHE ET EXPERIMENTATION
Notre travail s'inscrit en complément de celui des archéologues et des historiens que nous tentons de compléter par la reconstruction d'équipements, d'habits et d'objets de l'antiquité romaine que nous utilisons et que nous expérimentons afin de mieux comprendre leur conception, leur maniement ou leur rôle. Nous tentons, à notre niveau, entièrement bénévole, d'apporter notre pierre à une meilleure compréhension de l'antiquité romaine, socle de notre société occidentale.
RESEARCH AND EXPERIMENTATION
Our work is complementary to archaeologists' and historians' ones. We try to complete it through the reconstruction of artefacts, clothing and objects of Roman Antic Times, which we use and experiment to give a better understanding of their conception, their handling, or their use. We try, as a modest non-profit association, to help getting a better perception of Roman Antic Times, which are the base of our western society.
PEDAGOGIE
Nous avons aussi le souci de la diffusion pédagogique des connaissances acquises au travers d'actions dans les collèges et les lycées, de conférences, de démonstrations et d'ateliers lors de manifestations historiques. Notre travail de recherche, de documentation, de reconstitution et d'expérimentation nous permet de présenter les différents aspects de l'antiquité sous un angle à la fois ludique et pédagogique, avec le plus grand sérieux pour ce qui est de la réalité historique.
PEDAGOGY
We also care about the pedagogical diffusion of acquired knowledge through interventions in High-schools, lectures, demonstrations and workshops during historic shows. Our work of research, documentation, reconstruction and experimentation helps us to present different aspects of antic times both from playful and pedagogical aspects, with a great seriousness regarding historic reality.
AUXILIAIRES
Nous nous attachons plus particulièrement au travers de la "Cohors Prima Aquitanorum", à mieux comprendre le rôle et la vie des auxiliaires gaulois et aquitains, qui se battaient aux côtés des légions de Rome. Notre recherche sur l'aspect militaire s'étend également aux archers (essentiellement orientaux), frondeurs (les plus réputés venaient des Baléares), vélites gaulois et cavaliers numides ou germains qui venaient des quatre coins de l'empire pour s'engager dans les troupes auxiliaires. Nous travaillons évidemment aussi sur les célèbres légionnaires, citoyens romains, qui constituaient la base essentielle de l'armée de l'empire. Ce travail d'étude et de reconstitution de l'armée romaine couvre la période qui s'étend du début de notre ère avec la conquête des Gaules par César jusqu'à la fin du premier siècle qui voit l'empire romain culminer sous l'empereur Trajan.
AUXILIARIES
We are more specifically interested, through the "Cohors Prima Aquitanorum", in a better understanding of the part and the life of Gaul and Aquitaine natives who were fighting as auxiliaries within the roman legions. Our research on military aspects covers also the various people coming from every corner of the Empire to join in the auxiliary troops, such as archers (mainly from eastern countries), sling men (the most famous ones coming from the Baleares), Gaul Velites and Numidian or German horsemen. Obviously, we also work on the famous legionaries, the roman citizens forming the essential base of the imperial army. This work about the roman army applies to the period from the beginning of our era with the conquest of the Gaul by Caesar up to the end of the first century, when the Roman Empire culminates under Emperor Trajan.
VIE QUOTIDIENNE
L'association VIAROMANA s'applique également à mieux comprendre et à reconstituer la vie civile à Rome et dans l'empire, notamment en ce qui concerne l'enfance, les jeux et les jouets, la vie religieuse, l'artisanat, le costume ou la gastronomie. Le résultat de ce travail nous permet de faire partager au public le sentiment de la vie quotidienne dans l'empire romain, notamment en Gaule.
DAYLY LIFE
The association VIAROMANA applies itself to a better understanding and reconstruction of civil life in Rome and in the Empire, specially about childhood, games and toys, religious life, crafts, garments or cooking. The aim of this work is to make the audience share the feeling of daily life in the roman empire, specially in Gaul.
ECHANGES
Lors de nos interventions, les spectateurs peuvent à leur tour devenir acteurs, en s'habillant à la romaine, en dégustant les boissons et mets que nous leur proposons et en participant aux animations que nous recréons.
EXCHANGES
In our shows, the audience may as well participate in dressing the roman way, in tasting drinks and foods we propose and in acting in the parts we recreate.
