O/T New Interceptor package

The PD brought this demo by for us to look at.
(Still trying to figure out my cell phone camera....we curmudgeons struggle with these things)
They said it is supposed to be based on the Escape, but it looks bigger...kinda like the Mazda SUV.
I hadn't heard about this configuration, just the new Taurus package.
This is pretty nice and the officer said it really goes, probably as fast, or faster than the Taurus.
Same engine as the Taurus, "I think", didn't really scope it out. V-6, non turbo.
I like it, I think the cops will lobby hard to get them since they really want SUVs for the winter.

It is badged as a Police Interceptor, if we get them they will probably be black and white.

Very Possible, not that familiar with

May 7 2012, 5:12 PM

The new Explorers, and it seems way too big for an Escape.
Both the cop and my boss insisted it was based on an Escape so I allowed them to win the discussion and went back to work.
Should spend some time with my phone and learn to take a decent picture...... thought I had it this time.
I tried to take pics of the Taurus a couple weeks ago and ended up with 4 2 second vids...duh.

Definitely a 2013 Explorer

May 7 2012, 6:26 PM

My parents just looked at them and almost brought one home, except the price was a little high. They drive very nice, but if I was a LEO I would want something with a little more power, and a sturdier platform.

Sure looks like my wife's 2012 Explorer

The dash, grill and rear end look similar but with different trim.

There you have it! Never thought of the Explorer

Brain cramp, I guess.
We have several Expeditions set up with Police stuff but they aren't "Interceptors".
Not sure if the city budget will have room for these, I guess they are kind of spendy.
Nice, though.

Hard to believe it does not have an EcoBoost. Police Interceptor has always

May 8 2012, 8:59 AM

been fast and Plain Jane V6 in that thing will get stomped by a V6 Mustang.

According to the pamphlet, the EcoBoost

May 8 2012, 9:16 AM

Is an option on the Taurus, the SUV (Police Interceptor Utility) only has the 3.7L V6.
'Pursuit' in this small city doesn't happen much.
Getting around in the snow is more of a concern, lots of hills and corners.
Appears as if AWD is standard and it looks as if both vehicles share some common maintenance items: filters, plugs, brakes, wheels... That's a good idea and helpful for fleets.

Explorers will be available with the V6 Eco-boost...

May 11 2012, 8:27 AM

as the "Sport" package mid-summer. I don't know if that is a factor for police vehicles or not. Just letting you all know they are on the way. The 3.7 V6 is fine, the Eco w/paddle shifters in an SUV will be way too much fun. I guess it should be for 50k+ MSRP.
