For and ex-smoker, it is normal and inevitable to want to smoke sometimes. The secret to dealing with that feeling is to accept it.
In the past, wehn I have attempted to stop smoking, I did everything I could to avoid wanting to smoke--eating more, staying busy, chewing gum, exerising more and staying away from situations where I knew I would want to smoke. The more I tried to push the desire to smoke out of my mind, the more obsessed I became.
If I fight the desire to smoke, I get tense and frustrated. If I treat the craving as a normal part of life, and let it come and go, I can live with it.
