When the iview-MediaPro is used with the Japanese Mac OS-X , Japanese menu does to transform letter.
OK, I’m sure this has been asked before, I just can't find it. I need a little clarification on creating an HTML file. I want to be able to hand a burnt CD to one of my clients and have them be able to open a simple HTML file (PC/MAC), flip through some thumbnails, and finally be able to click on the thumbnails and get a full res version they may use for their magazine use etc. Can this be done? I am assuming that I would have to load the HTML file as well as a folder with all the pictures on the CD?? I realize that Iview can make HTML files but I have only read about it for web use... I am leaning toward the HTML so it can be opened for a non-Mac user. Will the program be able to design the HTML file with the proper file extensions so it looks on the CD that it is also on?..for the pictures that is. This will be the way I want to send my final color adjusted, cropped, sorted etc. photos to the client for their uses. I mean, I could just burn all the jpgs on a CD and send it to them that way but...well, they need to be desplayed better then that. No more bulging FedEx packages filled with slide sheets. Any help on the process would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
This can all be done with iView MediPro (excepting the CD burning).
Make sure to burn your disk using the ISO 9660 format, or better yet, a HFS/ISO Hybrid (as noted in Toast) format with exclusive, partially-shared, or fully-shared media. Consult your burning documentation regarding this. Take note of naming conventions and line endings, as well as resource and data fork information. Ideally, you want the ISO section to have shorter names (8.3 naming convention), files always having extensions, DOS line endings, and all IPTC and similar data in the data fork of the file (zap resource fork); while on the Mac side (HFS), you can have resource fork data, longer names, with or without extensions, custom Finder settings (like window settings), etc. To set this up, I recommend creating two HTML galleries: one for Mac, one for the ISO. Fully test your CDs for compatibility before burning a bunch.
As far as the size of your media, and whether you are using this to send full size pictures to your clients, I recommend the following:
When setting up the CD HTML galleries, add a link to your Media template that references a folder named 'hi rez', or something similar, and use the media name token to have iView fill that in per picture in each generated HTML file. i.e. this creates a link that a client can use to download the high rez picture with. Then have iView resize your media page pictures to a size suitable for most monitors (400x400 area or larger). When a client browses the thumbnail gallery, then clicks on a thumb, they will be shown a reasonably large (no scrolling) edition of the file, then associated with the picture is the link to the high rez actual file. Most browsers allow the user to download the link/file to disk by right clicking on the link, or using contextual menus (or using a modifier key when clicking) depending on platform. They could also just click the link and manuipulate the large image from there. Basically, your clients can view your catalog/gallery without scrolling very large photos, then download the original they want. You will have to copy the referenced high rez folder of originals into the resultant iView created slideshow folders so the link will work.
Creating cross-platform CDs is not simple, but once you have done it, it becomes a very useful tool. After iView MediaPro comes out for Windows, you should look into burning just iView catalogs and stand-alone slideshows to CDs.
Only problem I see with the HTML output iView produces JPEG files that do not have any ICC color profiles embedded in them plus they are still in their original color space. Either I would like to be able to convert all images into one color space and/or I would like to have the profile embedded so that an ICC savvy program will display them properly. As it is, if I create JPEGs from source files that are in a mixture of AdobdRGB and sRGB there is no way to properly display them.
If you re-read my response, you will notice the recommendation for linking to the original files (which would be copied to the CD under ISO and HFS - or possibly shared). The HTML output would then be only a display mechanism (much like iView displays the original), while the actual file, with embedded profiles, etc. is accessible via the link to the high rez folder.
It would be handy to have the HTML Gallery option also allow you to send different formats (other than JPEG), but until then, this is a good workaround, and probably simpler solution for client viewing/selection.
this could be solved by choosing a compression in the "make quicktime presentation" dialog.
if you have an old quicktime version on windows, you may need to choose an existing compression such as cinepak.
the comment "Notes: unable to load/run iView Pro 1.04 under OSX/Classic. iView 3.81 works ok."
is unreasonably vague (!!!) you'll need to be more specific to get a meaningful answer. besides if it's not working, how did you manage to build the presentation in the first place????
Thanks for the compression tip.
I'll test-burn a CD-R and will read the results in Win98 using QuickTime 5.03 beta.
As for my Notes, they are comments regarding the load and run condition of two versions of iView from OSX/Classic. Only one of the two would get-up-and-go.
Any iView Catalogs or QuickTime movies were previously created/saved in 9.04 (now 9.1).
I have a couple of catalogues containing 10,000 files each with a file size of 140MB odd. Under MacOS 9 these are very usable in terms of speed, the only noticeable delay comes when saving the catalogues. Under MacOS X, however, they are so slow as to be unusable. Switching between content and thumbnail views takes a good 5 mins on my G3/400MHz/512MB mac.
Has anyone else experienced such a slowdown under MacOS X?
If I run my catalogues created under MacOS 9.1 under X, they run unbearably slow. If I recreate the catalogues, minus annotations, they run quite quickly. Maybe it's some path translation issue?
Hi!
I hookup my powerbook to a nice beamer, startup with both at 768x1024 sync), start iwiew wit a 600+ catalog and start my presentation- but then:
Thumbnails start showing up v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y (about 1 a second, so this takes a few minutes..) I can't work like this- so I force quit, trash the preferences and restart with only the beamer- same result. Situation persists when I restart without the beamer, but is resolved if I first trash the prefs again and THEN restart.
..Yes, this is a very repeatable problem-
OS 9.01, Powerbook G3 wallstreet, the beamer is probably a sony- hooked it up without any switches or adapters on the cable..)
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Suggestions?

try turning off non apple extensions and try it again.
also make sure you have the latest version of mediapro from our site.
also it is good to install quicktime 5 http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
julian
I tried all this, with no luck at all-
I also tried throwing awy system prefs, finder prefs, quicktime- and Iview prefs.
I also tried other monitor- resolutions- this didn't help, and between resolutions the thumbnail window fills VERY slowly- during this the harddisk is working like mad.
Any other Ideas? I DO hope we get this resolved- Iview is one of my MAJOR programs teaching and I was very in favor of it compared to other stuff..
I'm considering purchase of MediaPro and have downloaded the manual.
Can someone please explain the differences between using Captions, Annotations, Keywords and Catagories. Particularily how they differ when searching for a particular image or group of images.
I will be using it primarily for sorting photos.
Thanks
Bob
I'm trying to export file names for use with LarryS's Tab-Delimited to Annotations script. (I've been too busy with OS X and skiing to work with this since he put it out.) I wanted to make sure all of this worked in OS X anyway. I had to go through the figuring out the Lib to trash (should have checked this group first).
I'm using Actions>Annotations>Export and nothing appears. Something happens but no file results.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Should go back to OS 9 to check!! But that isn't trivial.
Thanks
How well posting a question clarifies the mind. What to do? Well look at the f'ing manual of course. Why couldn't I have thought of that before. Found the answer.
Text Table. Not terribly intuitive, especially when there are Export functions. But I haven't paid yet, so can I criticize? I appreciate the opportunity to make sure the program does what I want. Especially considering how much work one puts into cataloging everything .
Before I make a bunch of useless CD's, I want to make sure I understand how to do this.
I want to burn CD's to give to clients which will present a slideshow using iView Pro. Am I correct that I need to put the following on each CD:
1. A folder of the images.
2. A copy of theiView application
3. A prepared catalog with the slidewhow preferences selected.
Anything else? Will this only work if the client has a Mac? How will they trigger the show to begin viewing?
Any needed extensions? If so, do they need to restart?
yes, you are doing everything correctly.
>Anything else? Will this only work if the client has a Mac?
yes
>How will they trigger the show to begin viewing?
you can set the catalog to begin a slide show by
choosing info for the catalog and clicking that option.
>Any needed extensions? If so, do they need to restart?
no, they just need quicktime installed.
Simple Method For Rotating Multiple Horizontal Images In Catalog?
by
(no login)
Is there a realtively quick way to rotate catalog thumbnails from a Photo CD from horizontal to vertical? In this case the catalog has thumbnails that I want to remain horizontal but I want to rotate some to a vertical orientation...
Just command(or shift)-click the individual items that you want rotated, and then, control-click on any one of the selected. A contextual menu pops up that has several functions, one of which is rotate.
You can also use the toolbar rotate button after selecting. (seventh in from the left)
When cataloging Kodak Photo CDs which image folder should I use? When I attempt to catalog the largest image size the cataloging takes forever, but I would prefer to open the largest files if I have a choice.
Since you really want the larger pictures, then you should catalog those, otherwise, iView will not know where they are relative to any compressed version. To speed up the import, use the Import function leaving iView as the front application (it is a little slower if it is in the background). Before importing, make sure you are in the Content(fastest) or Thumbnail views, not Media. Setting the thumbnail preference for Thumbnail to medium or smaller will help, as well as making sure the 'Ignore built-in thumbnails' is unchecked in the Import Options... dialog. Other than those steps, I don't know how you could expect to catalog high res pictures any faster.
Since I upgraded to iView Media Pro 1.0.4 (from iView Multimedia 1.3.8) , BW Images such as 1Bit PICTs and TIFFs look very bad in the thumbnail view: they look completely fragmented in small points.
In iView Multimedia this happened too, but rebuilding the thumbnail view (command-B) the thumbnail view was smoothed in a very fine way (antialiasing?).
This smoothing of the thumbnail view seems not possible in iView Media Pro, even changing the settings in the filter and preferences menus.
Since I have much 1bit PICTs of scanned BW-plans on my older iView catalogs this is very boring.
Is there no solution?
you can rebuild the thumbnails in mediapro.
select them then command b
often the thumbnails made by cameras are not that good. these are read and used by iview unless you set the preference to always make thumbnails. the ones mediapro makes are much better.
First one : when you import media you get a "Catalog" window. You can actually list only 500 files in that window. No turn around. That suck !
Second one : when you make a "thumbnail gallery" from your pictures, if you select the index template to the "Default [Thumbnail View]" and the media page to the "spy.html" template, you'll end up with an error message. Still the gallery seems ok. It just won't open after into your browser if you've selected this option.
Not really a big deal, except for the first bug I reported :/
Don't know about the first bug. It might be a limitation on an unregistered version.
Bug two may be because you have an 'unmounted' media object in your catalog. i.e. There is a media object in your catalog whose actual original file is no longer available when exporting the HTML gallery. This would be the case if you get the 'Catalog Incomplete' error that shows up at the end of the gallery creation, but before the automatic launching of the browser for viewing. Bad place to find this out if you have just done a large gallery export.
The fix for this bug is for the iView crew to have a dialog appear after you click the 'Create' button in the HTML Gallery dialog that tells you that you have missing items in the catalog. The workaround for now is to make sure that you always check for missing items in your catalog (Find Missing Items in Find menu) before you make any HTML galleries. You can check this when AppleScripting before you create the gallery, but have to manually 'hide' any unmounted catalog items before running the HTML export via the dialog. Easiest way to do this? Find Missing Items (Find menu), then Invert Selection (Edit menu), then Show Selected (Find menu) menu commands before running HTML Gallery....
Lastly, even after I fixed items that where missing (after getting the error), I proceded to get System Bus errors when trying to make HTML galleries again. Now that is a definite bug. Again, I think this would be solved with a check for unmounted items before the gallery is actually attempted to be made.

I do it on my system and now it works.
I've read somewhere that this lib was used on Mac Os 9 with old version of carbon libs to solve a bug...
I have posted on the discussion group about this, but it still does not work. I cannot seem to get files to import into iview unless I reimport the entire catalog. If I drag a file onto the catalog window or use the import command, the file shows up in the window. After I save the catalog, close it, and re-open it, the new files are no longer there. What do I do about this?
sounds like you are moving the files after creating the catalog. mediapro keeps a path to the original files if you change this it won't find or be able to display the original.

Will iView MediaPro support acrobat cataloging and drag & drop? It is VERY useful in a pre-press environment, as most of our final layouts are pdf files.
I do not know if this supports any Acrobat proprietary file format stuff, but since it is a postscript file, this plugin library should read it. But, like I have said, I have not used the plugin, so I don't know any of its limitations (if it has any).
If I create a catalog or quicktime slide show with Iview how can I put it in my dreamweaver program so it will show up. The gallery is without photos and I dont know how to load a quicktime show. Do I insert it as a photo or what.
At first, I was astoundingly flabbergasted that I couldn't mark files anymore and bemoaned that fact while I continued to use iView Multimedia. Then I finally read all your suggestions about labeling using the f-keys, sets, using command-h etc and you're totally right, the new way is MUCH better!
I just spent a week totally organizing a large catalog (15000+) files and want to say that everything is so much more organized than I could have done in previous iViews. Things are all cross-referenced in different sets, with different labels etc and the majority of it was done automatically.
Thanks for all of your hard work and your amazing ideas!
Perhaps somebody could provide info. with regard to a iView Multimedia problem? I dropped a few JPEG files into a (iView Multimedia) catalog and this error message appeared as these files were simultaneously corrupted, leaving them (any viewable semblance of them) viewable now only in the catalog window. Can the separate image files be repaired? Perhaps "Unsupported SOF marker type 0xc2" holds the solution (if one knew what this error indicates)?
Thank you
I've just finished a script that allows for find and replace, as well as support for RegEx patterns, for manipulation of data within almost all editable non-date fields.
From the ReadMe:
...
Script allows users of iView MediaPro to find and replace items within the annotation fields of visible items in a given catalog. It's powerful, not fast. It is recommended to use the Find command or the Catalog Index to narrow your visible items as much as possible before running the script.
Features:
1) Searches sensitive to case. Checked checkbox 'Case' indicates sensitivity. (default)
and/or
2) Searches for entire words, instead of parts of words. Checked checkbox 'Word' indicates entire word match. (default)
3) Can search using RegEx's variations upon regular expression patterns, passed through the Search and Replace fields. This includes all characters supported by RegEx, including backreferences!
...
It requires the use of the following scripting additions:
I sent a mail message to support@iview-multimedia.com a week ago asking about omitting files from the found set. Maybe it's too soon to worry, but I've not heard back. Have you asked them questions directly (instead of on the forum), and if so, have you heard back? How long did it take?
(A full copy of the email is appended, in hopes somebody else may be willing to answer it.)
I was looking forward to registering iView, but now I'm nervous. It's great software, but I find manual skimpy and so I'm especially nervous about buying it if I can't get questions answered.

Copy of message:
I fear this is a bone-headed question, but I've just started using iView Media Pro. I have looked in the manual and the faq and the forum.
Is there a direct way of selecting a file and un-showing it (omitting it from the current found set, to use FileMaker terminology)? I realize I can select all found images, deselect the few I want to dump (with cmd-click) and then Show Selected. But that is less direct and so more error prone than just pointing and saying "omit!".
Also, is there some way to globally change keywords? The "Show index" window looks like a good place for it, but one cannot edit the values. As my image collection grows I expect to want to make some changes.
Finally, a request. I changed file creation dates after putting the images into a catalog (my camera's date was unset and I hadn't realized it until too late). iView wouldn't acknowledge the change, even after a Reset Paths..., alas. I finally did a Synchronize, which did the trick, but none of the checkboxes looked relevant at all (I just left all checked, having synched in the other direction that way already, and held my breath). So my request is to have A Better Way for iView to update iView's finder info from files -- presumably a special checkbox in Synchronize, but perhaps something more automatic.
I posted to the net asking about image software. Of the programs I've tried so far, yours is far and away the best. If nobody suggests anything better (and I'll be quite surprised if they do), I'll be registering shortly.
I like the speed and the nice clean interface. Some of the other programs are incredibly clumsy for even simple things like adding captions.
The HTML stuff is great (though I wish I could specify a web page title during the creation process.) The use of templates is brilliant.
If you have ever purchased a product from Adobe, you might have noticed that you can not get tech support without coming across with your support or registration number. i.e. You have to buy it first. This is a reasonable developer expectation of users (especially if the product only costs $45 instead of $600). Tho, your point of needing specific info on features so that you may make a decision on purchasing is akin to asking questions of a car dealer before buying. They have a solid registered user base already that they have to provide tech support for, and that probably takes up much of their tech support time. Tho, they often answer questions here on the forum for unregistered users (tho I won't expect such if I were an unregistered user).
The iView crew has made an excellent piece of Mac software. And, since many Mac users are of the creative type, and probably need to catalog or organize their work, people from diverse disciplines are interested in their program. While iView is mighty handy, I am sure the developers are having a tough time deciding what new features to add short of making it a Swiss Army Knife that suits everybody's needs. The latter usually leads to 'Jack of all trades, master of none'. e.g. bloatware. I would prefer to have it be fast, light, and rock solid, which is evident by the efficient, tho not comprehensive, manual.
In any event, you bring up some good feature points.
1) Is there a direct way of selecting a file and un-showing it ..?
Not in one click like FMaker, tho that is a good idea. But you can do it in two clicks. After selecting the items you want to omit (via clicking, Find, Catalog Index, etc), choose Invert Selection from the Edit menu, then choose Show Selected (introduced in v. 1.0.4) under Find, and you have what your looking for. (no key command for Inverse, yet)
2) Also, is there some way to globally change keywords?
There is the Paste Across and Find functions, but not a Find AND Replace function yet. This can be accomplished via AppleScript. This would be a useful script, so I'll probably write it today. It would be even more useful as a program feature, so they might have plans already for including it.
3) I changed file creation dates after putting the images into a catalog ... iView wouldn't acknowledge the change...
This worked for me using Reset Paths... I suggest the contextual menu item Rescan Media (for selection). This is quicker, and doesn't seem to affect any adjusted annotations (tho I haven't tried this with an annotated file yet, like Photoshop, as this might overwrite adjusted fields - maybe).
as someone noticed already, the number of possible keywords is too limited. It is ok to have only 254 categories but I need many more keywords to exactly describe the content of the pictures in large catalogs. Maybe it is not possible to handle more than 254 keywords to get a fast automatic fill-in and pop-up menu? How about a limited pop-up that will show only the next twenty (?) alphabetical neighbors of the text typed so far.
Drag&Drop of keywords (multiple?) from the catalog index window into keyword fields of selected picture(s) would be helpful.
The contrast/brightness/color feature could be very useful as a temporary setting to adjust for the light conditions during presentations.
I would also like to have a temporary blur filter setting for presentations, many JPEGs found on educational CD-ROMs are downsampled too much, especially text looks very bad. If a slight blur effect is applied the picture looks much better.
Could we have a choice of whether to show or hide the cursor during presentations, maybe some large and colored cursors.
A useful feature would be to have the popup listing of current favorites for a given field have the option of being listed how they are logically organized in an actual Favorites text file, as well as alphabetically. This way input can be found logically by a cataloger who does not know what the particular lexicon is for a preset field entry. It would also be handy if this could be toggled between alphabetical or logical listing for a given field or catalog.
Maybe, also, support for line identifiers within the Favorites text files that would signify to iView to draw a menu divider between logical groupings, as well as defining headings for groupings that would not be acceptable input (either by being 'skipped' while scrolling the listing, or by being grayed, or both). White space support (or character identifiers) for indenting within groupings under a heading, or for double spacing between groups would be nice (if no support for dividers). Maybe tiered submenuing would be better.
Similarly, if there was logical listings, any added words would have to, no doubt, be reordered from within the text file. This could be initiated via AppleScript. But, something just as useful would be to allow particular fields' input to be 'locked' (i.e. only certain predefined input can be selected). This way, a person who sets up catalogs for a group of users can effectively create pre-defined-only popup menus for fields. Maybe this could be obvious to the user by showing only a popup menu, if the field is 'locked', instead of both text input field and popup menu.
I think a good feature would be to support the running of AppleScripts upon the import of media. It could be set up similar to Outlook Express's Rules. In the Import Options... dialog, under On Import, you could have a popup menu for selection of a script to run. This way the import filters, under Search and Media Types, become 'part' of the scripting process. i.e. the script will now only work on JPGs, etc.
This type of AppleScript support would be very useful in a professional environment where a file's import, or dropping into a watched folder, would automagically rename it, write any EXIF data to its resource fork, auto generate specific or incremental annotation data, auto create a custom thumbnail, etc.
The possibilities are as numerous as they are interesting.
Currently the catalogs allow full lock security, and full access. For us, the middle ground is MOST important:
The ability to allow continuous catalog changes, but with no access to change the original files. Yes, change comments, etc, etc.
So locking the originals is no answer, because other users of these originals will need access, and having gigabyte copies is no simple solution.
This is a request to have a level where all the options to change, move, delete, rename the originals be blocked, with full access to change the catalogue itself. It is OK to add and delete items from the catalogue, but not to change the originals.
So, iView, iCatalog, and iDoItAll
Since 90% of our usage is iCatalogue mode, would this be helpful to other users also?
I almost never use iView to modify the originals and think it would be great to lock this possibility out. I would set up all my catalogs to run under iCatalog mode by default with the option of changing the original protected by a password.
A simple improvement much needed is to have a variable size control panel, and allow the comments to be used as prompts seen in the control panel window. Font size needs to be around 14 to 18 points.
While iVMP can be used for stand along presentations, we use it for human annotated presentations in formal settings where the personal touch is important.
Problem with iView:Total in HTML Gallery index template
by
(no login)
The documentation with MediaPro v1.0.4 indicates that field phrase iView:Total in index or media HTML Gallery Export templates will be replaced with the count of index pages or media pages, respectively.
However, when I use this phrase in an index page, it is replaced by the number of MEDIA pages. I'm using it in the TITLE for my web page, in order to provide a title like "My Gallery of Photos, Index 1 of 3". Even if there are only 3 index pages, but 50 photos, it comes out "My Gallery of Photos, Index 1 of 50".
Re: Problem with iView:Total in HTML Gallery index template
by Adam Schneider (no login)
I discovered this exact problem last night. The only solution I've come up with so far -- besides simply saying "Index 1" instead of "Index 1 of 3" -- is to hard-code the number of index pages into your template, if you know how many there are and it's not going to change much.
This Problem is still in MediaPro Version 1.1
In addition, iView:GoPrevious and iView:GoNext also works only in the media pages.
Is there a work around?
My image files get, occasionally corrupted upon dropping them into an already established image catalog. Because this is not a continuing problem, it seems to occur randomly. I am wondering whether someone has had this happen to their image, audio, . . . files and/or how to avoid this destructive scenario in the future.
I'm trying to lossly rotate jpeg images. iView has a control to rotate, and both the thumbnail and iView's "Media" display use it, but nothing happens to the original image! I've tried "Synchronize" to update the original image, but that doesn't do anything.
I don't want to convert my file elsewhere, as I'll lose the information I've added to it. Any hints, suggestions? This is quite frustrating.
This is what my 'Rotate a Copy' AppleScript does. You can download it, as part of a group of scripts, on the iView site's download page. Since iView doesn't actually rotate your images, but instead rotates the rendering (a very good thing, btw), you have to use another app to due your bidding. In the case of this script, Graphic Converter is used. If you don't have GC.....my suggestion, get it and pay for it. It kicks butt, especially its batch functions. And, its great AppleScript support only gets better with each new version.
The script rotates a copy of the file you choose, and imports it into MediaPro, replacing the chosen file's media object, thereby keeping all of the already-written annotations, etc. I wrote this script for the basic reasons youv'e stated. If you find another feature that this script needs, or it doesn't work for you, please email me.
Thanx for bringing this up. I, too, wish for some support along these lines. But, why stop with adding a couple of more extensions? For me, I would want .t (WebSiphon), .php (Personal Home Page), .taf, .asp, and a couple of others.
My point?
It would be more appropriate to have the user choice mechanism be a text field (4 digit max), where users can place whatever type of extension they want (even made up ones for folks with their own servers who can map that kind of stuff). This is because there are many types of page extensions out there, and when this puppy goes over to the dark side.....er..... a Windows version is released, then there will be even more. What of XML? The list can go on. I think for future compatibility, this particular field should be user defined via an input field. ResEdit might work for the time being tho. Please let me know what you come up with if/when you hack it.
I need to get the Meta-tag data from the QuickTime Atoms generated by Escape's DICOM Plug-In.
Although the Info Panel has a selection called "Media Info", accessing the "media info" class by applescript does not yield the information of the "Media Info" info panel.
Any help would be appreciated.
my previous post:
------------
I am new to iView and am still examining the limits of it's uses. For my tasks, I need to be able to read and export the info which is displayed in the Media Info of the Info Panel.
I cannot seem to be able to find a method to either copy or export this information in any format.
I have tried using the applescript:
tell application "iView MediaPro"
tell window 1
get the media info of object 1
end tell
end tell
but this gives me a fixed subset of the info which doesn't include what I need.
Any suggestions or ideas how I can get the rest of the data?
------------
There seems to be a bit of ambiguity regarding the naming of that particular AScript command. It does not return the complete skinny on the Media Info Panel, but the 21 key:value record of the Media part of the Media Info Panel. In order to get the 'full' MediaPro stored data set for a given media object, you have to script the retrieval of 'media info', 'annotations', and 'device info'. There is another in the samples named 'photo info', but it just produces an error. There are other data specific to a catalog that you can access too, like user-defined fields, rotation, etc.
I think that all of the available, visible data (if your needed data is indeed showing up) in a catalog is accessible via AppleScript, but I am not sure about the QT Atoms. The crew at iView would know more about that, as iView is based on QT. I am unsure if there is a way to use AppleScript (or an addition) to directly access the atoms. I know of plenty of resource utilities with AppleScript, and can only assume that the atoms are stored in an 'easily' accessible manner. Maybe there are some tools available on Apple's site that you could script from within iView, and bring in any extra data as user-defined fields??
This feature is not yet supported by iView mediaPro.
as larry explained the "media info" term can be used to obtain a subset of data (media related) associated with a catalog item.
e.g: get the media info of object 1
similarly the terms "annotations record" and "device info" can also be used to obtain diferent subsets of related data.
iView MediaPro treats DICOM annotations (as well as movie or postscript specific info) diferently.
I guess we need to devise a way to extract the data, as text.
I still find that D1 nefs are ignored ...
despite having Nikon Capture and MacBibble
installed.
In the release notes of 1.0.2 is says
"Finalised support for Nikon NEF format..."
but this seems not to be the case ?
iView MediaPro uses Nikon libraries that haven't been released to the public.
Their plan is to bundle these libraries with all their products from April 1st (I believe).
We are trying to convince Nikon Japan to offer these libraries for public download, though so far they've been rather protective.
iView MP doesn't need Nikon Capture or MacBibble to decode NEF and it will do it with 8MB of RAM.
I am not sure I understand this answer. I just downloaded the trial version and cannot view my D1 NEFS, does iVMP Pro currently support Nikon NEF files as advertised if I were t purchase it, or are they, in fact, not supported. It is listed under import types; but all messages I see on this forum seem to indicate that it does not work yet. If NEFs are not supported, will the site announce when they are so I can purchase the product at that time?
The -8969 error indicates that the QuickTime importer (JPEG in this case) can't render this particular file. Or that the file is larger than 4100 pixels wide.
To verify this you can try opening this file with Apple's PictureViewer.

hi larry,
i hope this is what you meant. do you have any ideas on a better way to handle support thru email, a forum or a list serve? all suggestions are appreciated.

Thanx for flipping the forum. It seemed like reading right to left (no offense to anyone out there that does read that way)
I think forums are a good venue for both user interaction, as well as support since as a developer you have to answer many similar emails. The forum leaves these replies in a searchable format for future users.
A good example (tho not developer support) is at http://www.golivehq.com/forums/index.lasso It's a site for Adobe GoLive users that is hosted by http://www.pointinspace.com/ and run under a FileMaker/Lasso system. It's not cheap, but it allows for multiple categories and several very good forum-user features.
Personally, I use for some site designs a PERL based forum from Ultraboard http://www.ub2k.com/ as it offers the clear differentiation between categories and support for CSS, tho isn't as easy to follow as the outline style of this forum. It is reasonably priced, tho not as inexpensive as Discus http://www.discusware.com/. A good example of direct developer support is at Canvas http://www.deneba.com/support/forumdefault.html which I think is using Ultimate Board http://www.infopop.com/
All in all, I think that software developers should really focus efforts on forum support since it lets users know that there is only one place they need to go for support from the developers, as well as other users. (developers should add a little bio on any company posters they might have, as this helps users pinpoint developer feedback amongst user responses) Having good control over a forum's look and use is why I purchase them for my clients. Free web boards are good (this is one of the nicer ones), tho limited for technical support options.
I hope that is what you were looking for in a response.

For those unfamiliar with Disk Copy
-------
Disk Copy is an Apple utility which creates a file that is an exact copy of a CD, or folder, etc. Opening an image file results in a "disk" being mounted on the desktop -- just like inserting a CD, for example.
