The types of blankets used so depend on where they're going, in my experience. What one facility likes, another doesn't.
I'd suggest contacting the chapter you plan to donate to or the home office and see what their preferences are.
If you're sending to the home office tho', I'll bet they'd like whatever you send them. Home Office sends donations all around the country - I'm sure they have a place for most any kind of blanket.
My hospitals all love crocheted or knit blankets. We generally don't put batting in quilts for the NICUs because they're too warm but that's NOT a hard and fast rule.
I only have one hospital that does not want hand tied quilts - the concern being fingers and toes may get caught in the ties. So I send hand tied quilts to other facilities.
I find there's a place for most any type of blanket.
