fetal demise wrap
by laura
Hi,
I have been making thse wraps for quite some time. I make 2 squares, 10", or 12" or 14". Then one extra that I fold to make triangle. I line them with plastic from a regular food bag. I sew the plastic to the square set first. Turn inside out so plastic is inside. Then put triagle of plastic inside fabric triangle, stitch to side of square, so now you have a diamond shaped pouch. Turn the triangle to other side so seam allowance is inside. I put lace all around the outside edge. For boys or girls. It really makes it special. I also try to do more unisex designs than genger specific, as most hospitals that do high risk , need many a year, and gender wraps limit thier use. I find now that if I round off corners that it is easier and goes faster and does not hurt the finished look. I add ribbon ties a few inches in from 2 corners,on the triangle fabric thru all layers to the back, and I put a ribbon rosebud on the tie. These ties pull the sides in enough to make a sweet little "Angel Pocket". The berevement team from the hospital I sew for says it is the best thing they have ever had for the purpose. Some don't put plastic inside but the hospital likes it as it potects the parents from the more unpleasant aspects of the situation. They also like the hats I make from the smallest knit hats pattern , because they like the head covered too. I try to match them to the angel pockets. and put a rosebud on the top where a pom pom might go. Looks adorable. I hope this was clear and of help to you. If you so a search on fetal demise wraps online , you may find them there too.For pictures.
Good luck! You are doing wonderful work.
