Tax question

by

Help! I am hoping that there is someone out there that can help me figure this out. I know it is already 1/2 way through the year but I have a question about taxes. I want to try to claim some of my NIN donations on my taxes but I am not sure of the IRS rules. Maybe someone who does this can give me some guidance.

So...here goes: For example, if I knit 10 hats and mail them in do I claim the estimated amount of the materials (yarn) I used, or is there a set "value" per item? Also, can I claim postage since there is not a chapter close to me and I have kept the post office receipt? If I have the donation letter from the chapter I donated to, and the post office receipt for the postage is that enough or is there something else I need to do?

Thanks for any responses!
