What can we do for New Orleans?

by Lynn in Missouri

Hope this won't be off-topic here, but I am appalled by the losses and terrible conditions for survivors of the hurricane in New Orleans, as well as other places along our Gulf coast. I realize that right now they are struggling just to save lives and stop the looting and craziness, but there will be all kinds of long-term needs coming out of this. Especially for all those "hurricane babies" that have just been born!

Could NIN do a special outreach for the hurricane victims? Is there anything special we should "gear up" to make? I feel torn in half whenever I see the bad news on TV right now, and it would be comforting to be able to help in some way. There's only so much money I can donate to the Red Cross right now. Could we send personal care kits? Quilts? Christmas stockings later in the fall? Any ideas?

If anybody knows of links for hurricane relief we can send besides money, please share. Thanks!
