Thank you for your reply - I hadn't thought about using a hole-punch on fleece. I did find that I could use a wing needle (without thread)on flannel and it would make holes just about right for a 6 or 8 steel crochet needle, and using cotton thread makes a nice lacy edge. (I serged the edges first to keep it from raveling.)
