Convention information for Chapter Members

by

Hi Everyone,

Can you believe that the next NIN National convention is just 3 months away? I was looking at the calendar today and realized that the deadline to get in your reservations and payments is March 1st...that is just around the corner. Time sure has flown since the last convention in Bolivar.

There is a website section full of information for you and should answer all your questions. Check it out at http://www.newbornsinneed.org/convention2008

For those of you who did not attend the 2006 convention, it was held at the same location that Ann Marie Van Guilder's chapter will again be hosting the upcoming convention. There is a lovely website that describes the retreat center. Please visit the website when you have a moment. www.stspeterandpaulretreatcenter.org

If you have the opportunity to spend a little extra time in the area I'm including a couple of links for you. One is for the Licking County Convention and Visitors Bureau and the other is for Longaberger. If you are a collector of these lovely baskets you already know the quality. If you have not seen these before they are amazing and the homestead has great shopping...I left a few dollars there on my last trip

OK, back to convention info. One of the great things about convention is getting to visit with old friends and meet new ones. Another big draw is the classes. I am always looking for new patterns and new ways of doing things and convention is the perfect place to get renewed energy and inspiration.

The Ohio chapter has planned classes in accordance with results of a survey taken at 2007 Convention – we think you will love the change. All classes will be hands on – everyone will have the opportunity to attend each class. Patterns/yarn/material/sample pieces for all classes will be provided

• “Make It-Take It Crochet” (beginners & advanced) bring crochet needles (sizes F thru I)
• "Make It-Take It Knitting” (beginners & advanced) bring knitting needles (sizes 7 & 8)
• “Make It-Take It Quilting” (beginners & advanced) – bring scissors, straight pins
• “Make It-Take It Bibs & Burp Cloths” – bring scissors, straight pins

If all of the above information has not sent you running to find your checkbooks, our chef's Tom & Tom are making up our menus for the convention and I have permission to give you a sneak peek.

For those of you arriving and checking in on Thursday, dinner will be baked chicken, salad, vegetables, rolls, dessert, tea & coffee.

Friday & Saturday breakfast:
Eggs, bacon, toast, cereal, fruits, juice, tea and coffee. Breakfast is 7:00-8:30. Hotel guests are welcome also!!

Lunch Friday & Saturday:
Homemade soups, full salad bar, make your own salads, make your own sandwiches, tea, coffee and dessert.

Friday night banquet is going to be held at the Retreat Center this year. The menu is Prime Rib, Pork Tenderloin, mashed potatoes, vegetables, salad, rolls, coffee, tea and desserts.

Please come join us April 24 - 26th. The registration form and all of the information we need from you can be located at
http://www.newbornsinneed.org/convention2008/html/registration.html

The deadline is fast approaching and our host chapter needs to hear from you soon. It is very difficult to plan how much food, how many pattern samples and kits to make, and how many Welcome tote bags to make when you aren't sure how many people are attending. Think of it as sending in that RSVP card for the party.

Looking forward to seeing lots of you in Ohio in just a few weeks.

Mary Hoffman
