Help with ground cover/dirt or sand

I have just completed building up the area around a bunker for a D-Day dio. I would like peoples thoughts on whether to put sand as a ground cover built up around the bunker, or dirt. I already will be using medium green static grass by Woodland Scenics. I was going to use dirt because this is an observation bunker built up high on a hill. However, I have seen many neat pics of bunkers built up with sand around them, and it looked convincing. I just thought dirt because it is higher up on a hill, rather than being down on the beach. Help please. Thanks Trevor
