Response to Help with ground cover

To avoid making grass that looks like a putting green, you can emulate the model railroad guys. Use several shades of "grass". Lay down a few small and irregular patches of each color. Then mix the colors, and fill in the other areas, being sure to leave patches of bare "dirt". Vary the density of each color across the area. Toss in a few fallen limbs, rocks, and what have you for texture.
